Meghan Markle Eyes Acting Return as Prince Harry Faces Multimillion-Pound Legal Bill

As the Duke and Duchess of Sussex prepare for a significant life transition, the couple finds themselves navigating a complex landscape of professional ambition and mounting legal challenges. Reports indicate that Meghan Markle is exploring a potential return to the screen, even as Prince Harry faces a substantial financial hit following a high-profile court ruling.

A Return to the Screen?

Meghan, 45, who gained global recognition for her role as Rachel Zane in the hit legal drama Suits, is reportedly in the early stages of discussions for a role in the third season of Guy Ritchie’s acclaimed Netflix series, The Gentlemen. While the show—which stars Theo James and Kaya Scodelario—has yet to be officially renewed, industry insiders suggest a potential comeback for the Duchess, who recently made a cameo as herself in the upcoming comedy Close Personal Friends.

This professional pivot comes as the Duchess continues to oversee the operations of her lifestyle brand, American Riviera Orchard (referenced as ‘As Ever’), which she plans to manage from their future base in the United Kingdom.

The Cost of Litigation

The move toward a UK-based life coincides with a bruising legal defeat. Prince Harry, along with six other high-profile claimants including Sir Elton John and Doreen Lawrence, has been ordered by a High Court judge to pay an initial sum of over £9.5 million to Associated Newspapers Limited (ANL). This payment covers the first round of legal costs in a case involving allegations of unlawful information-gathering, which the publisher has consistently denied.

Experts note that while the claimants possess "after the event" insurance policies to cover up to £16 million of the costs, they remain personally liable for any figures exceeding that amount—a prospect that could lead to millions more in legal fees depending on the final, much larger, bill.

Relocating to the UK

Sources confirm that Harry and Meghan are planning to move into a non-royal residence outside of London. The couple has reportedly already enrolled their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, in British schools. This decision follows a quiet meeting between the Sussexes and King Charles at his Highgrove estate in July—the first time the monarch had seen his grandchildren in four years.

While the King is reportedly pleased at the prospect of spending more time with the Sussex family, palace insiders remain clear: there is no expectation for the couple to return to their former roles as working royals.

Security and Royal Tensions

The question of security remains a contentious point of discussion. Prince Harry has been embroiled in a long-standing legal battle with the Home Office regarding the level of protection he receives in the UK. With his status as a non-working royal, the arrangements for his safety are managed by the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures (Ravec). Recent reports suggest that Ravec may revisit the Duke’s claims for taxpayer-funded security, though official details remain shrouded in confidentiality.

Meanwhile, the wider Royal Family is currently gathered at Balmoral for their annual summer retreat. While reports of a formal "summit" to discuss the Sussexes’ return have circulated, palace sources emphasize that the gathering is a long-standing tradition. As William and Kate join other members of the family in Scotland, the public remains focused on whether the Duke and Duchess’s return will signal a thaw in the ongoing estrangement between the brothers.

As the couple prepares for this new chapter, their professional and legal future remains a topic of intense global interest.
