A mother has been sentenced to six years in prison for the culpable homicide of her three-month-old daughter, Dahlia-Rose. Courtney Gartshore, aged 28, was found guilty of causing her infant’s death by subjecting her to “significant and sustained heat” from a hairdryer. The tragic incident occurred on September 30, 2023, at a residence on King Street in Peterhead, Aberdeenshire. Following a trial at the High Court in Aberdeen in July, Gartshore received her sentence at the High Court in Edinburgh on Friday.
Emergency services were dispatched to the property after the alarming incident, but sadly, Dahlia-Rose was pronounced deceased at the scene. Investigations revealed that Gartshore had been consuming alcohol while she was the sole caregiver for her infant daughter. The investigation into the child’s death led to Gartshore’s arrest and subsequent charging in November 2023.
