Romance, comedy and period drama take centre stage
One of the week’s biggest releases is ‘Musafir Cafe’ on Netflix, starring Vikrant Massey, Vedika Pinto and Mahima Makwana. The romantic drama follows software engineer Chander Mohan Sharma, who leaves behind his corporate career to pursue his dream of opening a café in the mountains. Meanwhile, SonyLIV brings ‘Pallichattambi’, featuring Tovino Thomas as Pothan Christopher. Set during Kerala’s 1959 Liberation Struggle, the period drama follows a man whose beliefs evolve after witnessing the struggles of the working class. The film explores loyalty, politics and social change against a historical backdrop. On Amazon Prime Video, Kay Kay Menon headlines ‘Adarsh Baal Vidyalaya’. He plays school principal Gyaneshwar Tripathi, who attempts to prepare underperforming students for a government-sponsored educational trip to Cambridge University with the help of his fellow teachers.
Thrillers, action and sci-fi join the line-up
Fans of suspense can look forward to ‘The Truthers’ on Netflix. The psychological thriller follows Ruth, who returns home after her mother’s death only to discover that her father has become consumed by conspiracy theories, forcing her to question everything around her. Apple TV+ will premiere ‘The Dink’, starring Jake Johnson as former tennis player Dusty “The Hammer” Boyd. After suffering a career-ending injury, he enters the competitive world of professional pickleball while trying to save his father’s struggling country club. Also arriving this week is ‘Stuart Fails to Save the Universe’ on JioHotstar. Set in The Big Bang Theory universe, the sci-fi comedy follows Stuart Bloom, who accidentally creates a multiverse crisis and embarks on a mission to repair the damage.

The list of new arrivals also includes Kevin Hart’s ’72 Hours’ on Netflix, where he plays a marketing executive who unexpectedly joins a Gen Z bachelor party in Miami. Prime Video will stream ‘Ego Raman’, following Arivu, a TNPSC aspirant who fulfils his dream of becoming a government officer. Meanwhile, Netflix has ‘Con City’, a crime comedy about four con artists posing as an ordinary family while secretly operating a hotel in Karnataka.
‘Chinna Chinna Aasai ‘ gets streaming date
Apart from this week’s releases, JioHotstar has also announced the OTT premiere date of ‘Chinna Chinna Aasai’. Directed by Varsha Vasudev, the film is set in Varanasi and follows two strangers whose lives become connected through an unexpected twist of fate. The streaming platform confirmed the release with the message, “Every little wish has a story worth telling. Chinna Chinna Aasai streaming from July 28 in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi, exclusively on JioHotstar.“Horror-comedy fans can stream ‘Kalinga Mystery’ on Sun NXT, which follows a group of college students who accidentally awaken an ancient supernatural force. Viewers can also watch ‘Triple Decker’ on ManoramaMAX, where a delivery executive’s attempt to help the woman he loves leads him into increasingly chaotic situations.
