The First Sub-Committee of the Committee of Parliament on Official Language inspected the Indian Maritime University (IMU) Kolkata Campus to review the implementation of the Official Language Policy and the use of Hindi in official work.
The delegation was led by Bhartruhari Mahtab, Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) and Deputy Chairman of the Committee, along with Dinesh Sharma, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and Convener of the First Sub-Committee.
Other Members of Parliament who were part of the delegation included Satyapal Brahmachari, Kishori Lal Sharma and Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri. Senior officers from the Committee Secretariat also accompanied the team during the visit.
The inspection focused on assessing the university’s implementation of the Official Language Policy and reviewing the progressive use of Hindi in administrative and official communication.
Parliamentary Committee inspections are conducted periodically across Central government institutions and organisations to evaluate compliance with the provisions relating to the use of Hindi in official work under the Official Language framework.
The visit formed part of the Committee’s ongoing review of language policy implementation across government institutions.
