British Transport Police said officers were called to Mirfield railway station in Station Road, Mirfield around 7.30am after the force received reports of a casualty on the tracks.
The station was cordoned off this morning with the fire service and the ambulance service at the scene.
A force spokesperson said: “Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The incident is not being treated as suspicious, and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
Train operators and Network Rail reported all lines were closed and services scheduled to pass through Mirfield Station were cancelled or subject to delays of up to one hour.
Just before 10am, Network Rail reported that some lines have re-opened however there will be disruptions until lunchtime today.

TransPennine Express said routes from Manchester to York, Scarborough, Newcastle and Redcar Central are all affected by delays or short-notice cancellations in both directions.
The train operator said its Newcastle to Liverpool Lime Street service is planned to terminate and restart in Leeds.
TransPennine Express services from Scarborough to Manchester Piccadilly and Redcar Central to Manchester Airport will terminate and restart at York.
Manchester Piccadilly to York services via Wakefield will be cancelled.
