Rajat Bedi Embraces Legacy, Expands into Marathi Cinema with ‘Bandhu’

Actor and producer Rajat Bedi, a familiar face in Hindi cinema and television for over two decades, is embarking on a new creative chapter. Following his recent appearance in *The Ba**ds of Bollywood, Bedi is officially foraying into the regional landscape as the presenter of the upcoming Marathi film, Bandhu.

Written and directed by Nitin Sindhuvijay Supekar and slated for a November release, the project represents more than just a new professional venture for Bedi; it is a continuation of a cinematic lineage that spans three generations.

A Legacy Rooted in Storytelling

Rajat Bedi’s move into production is deeply informed by his family’s rich history in the Indian film industry. His grandfather, the legendary Urdu writer Rajinder Singh Bedi, was a titan of the golden era of cinema. The elder Bedi penned the iconic dialogues for classics such as Devdas, Madhumati, and Abhimaan, while also establishing himself as a director and producer with works like Dastak, Faagun, and Rangoli.

Rajat’s father, Narendra Bedi, further cemented the family’s reputation as a noted filmmaker. Reflecting on his heritage, Rajat shared, “Generationally, we have been into writing stories, producing, and directing films. That legacy has continued with me as the third generation.”

Before turning his attention to Marathi cinema, Rajat had already produced projects across television, Hindi, and Punjabi film circuits. However, he emphasizes that the decision to back Bandhu was driven purely by the power of its narrative.

“Cinema Has No Language”

For Bedi, the appeal of Bandhu was instantaneous. “The reason I’m producing this is because the content is so beautiful,” he explained. “I couldn’t say no to it. I feel cinema has no language. It is something that touches your heart and soul. Even though you don’t understand the language, you can understand the film.”

While his entry into the Marathi industry was not a calculated career maneuver, he views the project as a natural evolution of his work. “I never had plans to enter the Marathi film industry, but when I was approached with this subject and its content, I was very excited, especially given the beautiful cast, which has done a phenomenal job,” he added.

As Bandhu prepares to reach audiences this November, Rajat Bedi remains confident that the film’s emotional depth will resonate far beyond linguistic barriers, proving once again that a compelling story remains the universal currency of the silver screen.
