‘Brahmastra 2’ Poised for Massive Scale: Sequels Budget Reportedly Hits Rs 550 Crore

The cinematic landscape of India is bracing for an unprecedented spectacle as anticipation continues to build around Ayan Mukerji’s ambitious Astraverse. Following the groundbreaking, albeit commercially complex, release of Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva, reports now suggest that the franchise is set to return with an even more gargantuan investment.

According to recent industry buzz, the highly anticipated Brahmastra 2 is currently in talks for a staggering production budget of Rs 550 crore.

A Major Revamp for the Astraverse

Industry insiders indicate that Jio Studios is in final negotiations to bankroll this massive project. This proposed investment represents a significant escalation from the first film, which was mounted on a reported budget between Rs 375 crore and Rs 410 crore. The substantial increase is reportedly tied to a “major revamp” of the sequel, with creators aiming to scale up the visual effects and storytelling scope to surpass its predecessor in every aspect.

Star-Studded Cast and Storyline

The sequel has long been the subject of intense speculation, particularly regarding its central performances. Ranbir Kapoor is expected to take on a dual role, portraying the protagonist Shiva while also stepping into the shoes of the formidable antagonist, Dev.

While Alia Bhatt is confirmed to reprise her role as Isha, all eyes are on the potential casting of Deepika Padukone. Though she made a fleeting, impactful appearance in the first installment, reports suggest she is in discussions to portray Amruta—the character slated to stand opposite the dark figure of Dev.

Production Timeline

Fans of the franchise will need a bit of patience, as the project is still in the active development phase. Scripting and intensive pre-production are currently underway. Insiders suggest that Ranbir Kapoor is expected to commence filming for the sequel in April 2027, following the completion of his commitments to Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana: Part 2.

Learning from the Past

The first installment of the trilogy, released in 2022, was a technical marvel that introduced Indian audiences to a high-fantasy world rooted in mythology. While the film boasted an impressive star cast—including Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna, Shah Rukh Khan, and Mouni Roy—it faced significant pressure to justify its high price tag. Despite a respectable worldwide gross of roughly Rs 410–429 crore, the film’s return on investment remained a subject of intense debate among trade analysts.

With the reported Rs 550 crore budget, Brahmastra 2 is positioning itself as one of the most expensive Indian films ever produced. Whether this massive gamble will translate into a new benchmark for Indian fantasy cinema remains to be seen, but for now, the Astraverse remains one of the most closely watched sagas in Bollywood.
