A man broke into a woman’s home in Falkirk and raped her before sending her video footage of the attack.
Calum Clelland, 28, entered the house in Falkirk on September 17, 2023 and subjected his victim to a serious sexual assault.
The High Court in Edinburgh heard how the woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, awoke to find the rapist standing in her bedroom.
Prosecutor Louise Beattie told judge Lord Harrower: “She was very confused. The accused then said to her something along the lines of that he was surprised how sound she was, as he had broken in.
“The accused then showed her two videos he had recorded on his phone, each one minute long, which show her curled up on her side in bed asleep and unmoving, and him raping her.
“The complainer asked the accused to send her the videos as she didn’t want him to be able to deny what had happened.
“She stated that she didn’t really react to the videos at that time.
“The accused was initially reluctant to send her the videos, but he did then send them to her.”
The story emerged after Clelland, originally of Bonnybridge, pled guilty to a charge of rape.
Ms Beattie told Lord Harrower that the complainer didn’t phone the police until September 24, 2023, and made a total of three calls to law enforcement.
The prosecution lawyer added: “She had realised that what had happened was illegal and wanted to speak to someone about it, although she was initially reluctant to give specific details.
“She did ultimately provide a police statement on September 28, 2023, by which time she had realised the seriousness of what had happened.”
Defence lawyer Drew McKenzie KC told the court that doctors were trying to determine whether his client had autism.
Mr McKenzie told Lord Harrower that the court would need to obtain a background report on Clelland before he could be sentenced.
Lord Harrower deferred sentence for the court to obtain a report and placed Clelland on the Sex Offenders Register.
Clelland, who has one previous conviction, was then remanded in custody. He will be sentenced at the High Court in Edinburgh on September 15, 2026.
