Sacred Sanctum Violated: Thieves Target Hubballi Jain Temple in Midnight Heist

Masked Burglars Target Hubballi Jain Temple, Flee with Valuables Worth Lakhs

Hubballi: In a brazen act of sacrilege and theft, a historic Jain temple in Hubballi was targeted by masked intruders during the early hours of Sunday, sending shockwaves through the local community. The incident occurred at the Shri Adinath Jain Temple, managed by the Jinkushal Dadawadi Trust, situated near the Gabbur region.

Local authorities reported that the suspects gained unauthorized entry into the premises under the cover of darkness. Preliminary investigations suggest the perpetrators used an iron rod to force open the main entrance of the temple before proceeding to ransack the sanctum sanctorum.

Significant Financial Loss Reported

The thieves managed to escape with a substantial haul, which has caused distress among the temple trustees and devotees. According to police reports, the stolen items include approximately two kilograms of silver artifacts, valued at an estimated Rs 7.3 lakh. Furthermore, the miscreants cleared out the temple’s donation boxes, siphoning off an additional Rs 4.2 lakh in cash.

The total loss is estimated to be over Rs 11 lakh, marking a significant blow to the temple’s resources.

Police Investigation and CCTV Leads

Following the discovery of the break-in, senior police officials, including Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) UB Chikkamath and Bendigeri Police Inspector SR Nayak, promptly arrived at the crime scene to conduct a forensic sweep and gather evidence.

A breakthrough in the investigation has emerged from the temple’s own security infrastructure. Investigators have secured CCTV footage showing three masked individuals maneuvering inside the temple premises during the commission of the crime. Police are currently analyzing the video recordings to identify the suspects and track their escape route.

“We have registered a case and are actively pursuing several leads,” said Inspector SR Nayak. “The footage is being scrutinized to identify the perpetrators, and we are looking into all possibilities regarding their identity and current whereabouts.”

A Recurring Security Concern

This recent breach has raised serious concerns regarding the security measures in place at the religious site, as this is not the first time the temple has been targeted. Just months ago, in January, the same temple was hit by a similar burglary.

During that earlier incident, ornaments valued between Rs 10 and Rs 11 lakh were stolen. In that instance, the police had successfully tracked and apprehended a gang from Gujarat, leading many to wonder if the current heist is the work of a professional inter-state criminal network or a copycat operation.

The police have assured the public that they are treating the matter with the utmost urgency. Increased patrolling has been ordered in the Gabbur area, and authorities are coordinating with neighboring jurisdictions to ensure that the suspects are apprehended as quickly as possible. For now, the local community remains on high alert, calling for better protection for religious institutions in the city.
