Probe Ordered into Appointment of ‘Hindi-Belt’ Teachers at Salem Government School

SALEM, TAMIL NADU – A Government Model School in Kuppur, situated near Omalur in the Salem district, is currently facing intense scrutiny following the contentious decision to hire educators from northern states to provide academic coaching to students.

The institution, a residential facility serving over 400 boys and girls from Classes 6 to 12, has come under fire after reports surfaced regarding the recruitment of teachers hailing from Rajasthan and other Hindi-speaking states. The appointment has sparked questions regarding hiring protocols and the management of educational resources within the state-run school.

In response to the growing controversy, district education authorities have launched a formal investigation. A. Ellappan, the Chief Educational Officer (CEO) of Salem, confirmed that the department is conducting a thorough review of the staffing practices at the facility.

“An inquiry is underway into the appointment of teachers from other states,” Ellappan stated. “We have also sought details on whether the teachers were paid through the school management committee.”

The incident has drawn significant attention as stakeholders investigate whether the school’s management bypassed standard hiring procedures to bring in external coaching staff. The probe is expected to clarify the administrative lapses surrounding this controversial decision and whether the financial arrangements for these appointments align with government guidelines.

As the inquiry continues, local authorities are focusing on ensuring that the educational standards at the residential school—which provides essential hostel facilities for its students—are maintained in accordance with state regulations. Further updates are expected as the education department compiles its findings.
