Sandeep Reddy Vanga Confirms ‘A’ Rating for Prabhas Starrer ‘Spirit’, Addresses Mega-Clash with Rajamouli’s Next
Filmmaker Sandeep Reddy Vanga has once again set the internet abuzz with updates regarding his highly anticipated project, Spirit. Speaking at the trailer launch of Romanchakam—a film he is presenting under his banner, Bhadrakali Pictures—the director offered a candid glimpse into the creative direction of his upcoming cop drama.
An Intense Experience: ‘Spirit’ to Receive ‘A’ Certification
Addressing the film’s tone, Vanga confirmed that Spirit will be submitted for an ‘A’ certificate. The director noted that the film’s inherently intense and violent nature makes this classification both necessary and intentional. In the film, superstar Prabhas will be seen portraying a police officer, a role Vanga promises will push boundaries and deliver a raw, visceral cinematic experience.
A Nod to India’s Biggest Superstar
During the interaction, the Animal director reiterated his high praise for his lead actor. When asked about his collaboration with Prabhas, Vanga did not hold back, declaring, “Not just my feeling, but most people feel that… Prabhas is India’s biggest superstar.” Their partnership has become one of the most closely watched pairings in the Indian film industry, with fans eager to see the director’s bold style meet the actor’s immense screen presence.
Navigating the Big-Ticket Clash
Vanga also addressed the speculation surrounding a potential box-office clash with SS Rajamouli’s upcoming venture starring Mahesh Babu, currently referred to as Varanasi. With Spirit slated for a March 2027 release and the Rajamouli-Mahesh Babu project expected in April 2027, questions were raised about the proximity of their release dates.
Maintaining his composure, Vanga pointed out that there is a 37-day buffer between the two, which he believes is sufficient. In a lighthearted moment, he joked with reporters who seemed concerned about the proximity, humorously suggesting they were over-eager to clear the path for the Rajamouli film, which he graciously acknowledged as a “bigger” project.
Behind the Scenes: Casting Controversies
The road to production has not been without its hurdles. The film recently made headlines due to reports surrounding the exit of lead actress Deepika Padukone. Pranay Reddy Vanga, the director’s brother and producer, cited scheduling conflicts and remuneration disputes as primary reasons for her departure—claims that have been refuted by Padukone’s representatives.
Further adding to the drama, recent reports suggest that actor Prakash Raj, who contributed his voice to the film’s audio teaser, may have also parted ways with the project.
As Spirit continues to navigate its pre-production phase, the sheer scale of the project and Vanga’s unwavering vision ensure it remains one of the most anticipated events on the Indian cinematic calendar.
