Security Scare: Crockett’s District Office Evacuated Following Suspicious Package Delivery

Building Evacuated After Suspicious Package Delivered to Congresswoman Crockett’s District Office

DALLAS — Emergency crews were dispatched to the Design District on Wednesday following reports of a suspicious package delivered to the district office of U.S. Representative Jasmine Crockett.

The Dallas Police Department and a hazardous materials team from Dallas Fire and Rescue responded to the multi-story building located at 1825 Market Center Ave. The package was discovered in the congresswoman’s office, which is situated on the fourth floor of the facility.

As a precaution, building officials ordered an immediate evacuation of all occupants on the third floor and above. Individuals working on the first and second floors were advised that they could evacuate if they felt it necessary. The building has a storied history in the area, housing the offices of the Dallas Voice on the second floor and serving as the former site of a Chase Bank branch. The fifth floor of the building previously served as the district office for the late Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson.

Dallas Voice Publisher Leo Cusimano and Associate Publisher Chad Mantooth were present in their offices when the emergency protocols were initiated. Following the arrival of emergency personnel, hazmat officers successfully secured the suspicious package and removed it from the building to undergo further testing and investigation.

While the scene was eventually cleared of the immediate threat, authorities have provided little additional information regarding the nature or contents of the package.

Congresswoman Crockett, who represents Texas’ 30th Congressional District, has held the office since 2023, following in the footsteps of Johnson. Crockett previously served in the Texas House of Representatives for District 100. The congresswoman is nearing the end of her current term, as she previously announced she would not seek reelection to the U.S. House in order to pursue a bid for the U.S. Senate seat previously held by John Cornyn.

Crockett’s tenure in the race for the Senate concluded earlier this year following the Democratic Primary. As the 2026 midterms approach, the state’s political focus remains intense, with polls indicating a tight race between Democratic primary winner James Talarico and Republican challenger, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton. According to a Texas Public Opinion Research poll released today, Talarico holds a narrow 51-to-47 percent lead over Paxton with just 11 days remaining until the general election.

Early voting for the 2026 midterms is currently underway and will continue through Oct. 30. Election Day is set for Tuesday, Nov. 3.

Authorities say they are continuing their investigation into the suspicious package. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
