National Award-Winner Anjali Patil Shines in ‘Selvi’ Trailer Ahead of Busan International Film Festival Premiere
The anticipation for the 31st Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) has reached a fever pitch with the unveiling of the trailer for the Tamil-language drama Selvi. The film features the celebrated National Award-winning actor Anjali Patil, who takes on a demanding lead role that promises to resonate deeply with global audiences.
Directed by debut filmmaker Sailesh Rathnakumar, Selvi has earned a prestigious spot in the festival’s “Vision – Asia” section. This selection serves as a significant milestone, positioning the film as a standout piece of Indian independent cinema on a major international stage.
A Portrait of Resilience and Care
The newly released trailer introduces viewers to the protagonist, Selvi, a migrant home-care nurse. Through a series of poignant scenes, the footage captures the rhythmic, often grueling nature of her profession. “Migration and caregiving are two subjects that the world has been discussing at length,” Patil noted. “People move across borders in search of work and dignity, while caregivers often become the backbone of families and communities, carrying emotional and physical responsibilities that remain largely unseen.”
She added, “This is a story rooted in our realities, our people, and our lived experiences, but the questions it raises about migration, care, labour, dignity, and survival belong to the world.”

Beyond its powerful lead performance, Selvi boasts a powerhouse creative team. The film’s visual and auditory language has been crafted by industry veterans, including renowned editor A. Sreekar Prasad. The cinematography and co-writing duties were handled by Bargav Sridhar, while the immersive sound design was spearheaded by Anand Krishnamoorthi, with an evocative score composed by Suren Vikhash.
The ensemble cast supporting Patil includes talented performers such as Vinoth Kishan, Swathy Krishnan, Raja Krishnamoorty, Archana Padmini, and Mekha Rajan.
