The trajectory of Tamil cinema star Soori has shifted dramatically in recent years. In a candid conversation with Galatta Plus during the promotional rounds for his latest film, Soori opened up about his professional relationship with Ravikumar. The actor revealed that their collaboration has been seven to eight years in the making.
“I have been waiting to work with Ravikumar for a long time. We share a deep friendship, and I’ve always told him that I am ready whenever he has a script that suits me,” Soori shared. When the moment finally arrived, Ravikumar was unequivocal in his casting choice. Recalling the director’s pitch, Soori noted, “He told me, ‘You’re the only person who can do a script like this now. You have to do it.’”
Pushing Boundaries Beyond ‘Mandaadi’
The actor admitted that the intensity of the upcoming project caught him by surprise. Ravikumar highlighted the evolution the audience has witnessed in Soori’s acting since his transition into lead roles, promising that this new character would push the actor even further than his recent work in the sea-based drama, Mandaadi.
Rather than being daunted by the prospect of such a rigorous role, Soori embraced the challenge with enthusiasm. “Whatever role you want to take me to, wherever you want to take me, I don’t mind. I want to work with you. If you want me, I’ll always be ready,” he affirmed. Soori’s immediate focus remains on Mandaadi, an ambitious action drama directed by Mathimaran Pugazhendhi. The film, which centers on a traditional sailing boat race along the coast of Tamil Nadu, features an ensemble cast including Mahima Nambiar, Sathyaraj, and Suhas, with a score by G.V. Prakash Kumar.
