Matching Milestones: Spider-Man vs. Batwara 1947
In an interesting turn of events, Spider-Man: Brand New Day managed to match the Monday collections of the Sunny Deol-starrer Batwara 1947, which is currently in its opening week. Both films pulled in an estimated ₹2 crore net on Monday. However, Batwara 1947 achieved this with a significantly larger screen count, reportedly exhibiting across 6,771 shows, nearly double that of the Spider-Man film. The historical drama Batwara 1947 has collected approximately ₹28.50 crore net and ₹33.95 crore gross in India so far.
A Strong Third-Week Hold for the Web-Slinger
Following a sensational first two weeks, where Spider-Man: Brand New Day amassed an estimated ₹334.75 crore in its opening week and a further ₹108.65 crore in its second week, the film faced fresh competition in its third week. New Hindi releases, including the Emraan Hashmi-starrer Awarapan 2 and Sunny Deol’s Batwara 1947, entered the fray, vying for audience attention.
Despite this increased competition, Spider-Man demonstrated resilience. After a subdued third Friday, collecting ₹3.90 crore net, the film experienced a strong rebound over the weekend, earning an estimated ₹10.25 crore on Saturday and ₹9.50 crore on Sunday. This brought its third-weekend total to approximately ₹23.65 crore net, showcasing a commendable hold.
With its India gross now well above ₹560 crore, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is firmly on track to join the exclusive ₹600 crore club. Industry analysts predict that the film is highly likely to set a new lifetime box office record for a Hollywood release in India, further cementing its status as a monumental success.
