Convenience brands, SuperValu and Centra have broken their fundraising record with a total of £253,000 raised across their store network for charity partner, Action Cancer in 2025.
The Musgrave NI owned retail brands have beaten their previous fundraising total, raising a combined £4.25 million for long-term charity partner Action Cancer since 2001.
This year’s record-breaking total was the culmination of various fundraising initiatives throughout the year, including the annual Centra Run Together 5k and 10k races, which raised £38,000 with 1,600 runners taking part in the October 2025 event. Alongside this, Frank and Honest’s annual Espresso We Care campaign raised more than £25,000, as 50p from every Frank and Honest coffee sold over four days in September was donated directly to Action Cancer.
Individual stores also made a significant impact on fundraising this year. Top fundraiser Woods’ SuperValu Fruitfield in Richhill raised £14,100 in 2025 with a store-team skydive. Centra Prince Andrew Way in Carrickfergus raised £5,100, hosting a raffle and series of in-store activities throughout the year, while Moran’s Centra Strand Road in Derry raised £3,000.
Musgrave NI’s annual fundraising efforts help to keep Action Cancer’s Big Bus on the road, contributing to the accessible delivery of breast screening and skin cancer detection services across towns and communities in Northern Ireland. In 2025, the Big Bus visited 130 communities across Northern Ireland, completing 2,226 mammograms, 1,016 health checks, and 230 skin cancer assessments. Of the health checks, 50% of people were referred to their GP for further investigation.
Maurice Cusack, Head of Retail Marketing at Musgrave NI commented on the fundraising total:
“Year after year, we continue to raise more for Action Cancer than we ever thought was possible when our partnership began in 2001. I’m particularly proud of this year’s Centra Run Together 5k and 10k races in October, which raised a record-breaking £38,000.
“This year, it’s been truly inspiring to see the incredible individual efforts from our retail partners, with outstanding fundraising taking place at store level like Woods’ SuperValu Fruitfield in Richhill, which raised more than £14,000 in 2025. The unwavering support of our customers, retail partners and colleagues continues to amaze us every year.”
Gareth Kirk, Action Cancer CEO, added:
“The impact of SuperValu and Centra’s support in sustaining the Big Bus is invaluable. Without this support fewer cancers would be detected and potentially more lives lost.
“In 2025 the Big Bus, with its onboard free breast screening service for women aged 40 to 49 and 70 plus, its skin cancer detection service and health checks, visited 130 different communities throughout N Ireland, the majority of which were in the top 50% of deprivation. With the continued support and commitment of Musgrave NI, its retail partners and customers,
it is our aim for 2026 is to visit even more locations and to reach even more people and in doing so to make a difference to more women just like Victoria.”
Ballymoney resident and Action Cancer Ambassador, Victoria Stewart, had her breast cancer detected aged 47 following a visit to Action Cancer’s Big Bus.
Reflecting on the impact of early detection and her journey since first being diagnosed in 2024, Victoria said: “I was in shock but they told me that it had been detected early and it was treatable. Thankfully I was able to get screening before the age of 50 at Action Cancer – it meant that my cancer was caught at an earlier stage.”
“I would like to encourage other women to avail of the life-saving breast screening on board the Big Bus and my message generally is to please be vigilant about your health. If you are concerned about any changes to your body, do not hesitate but contact your GP. Time is your winner. Please learn from my story, early detection changes everything and saves lives.”
Other initiatives this year included the Sponsor a Mammogram campaign, raising £6,000 to support 50 mammogram screenings and SuperValu’s ongoing sponsorship of Breast Foot Forward.
