Tesla Adjusts Strategy: Price Hikes for Cybertruck Models Amid Major Texas Solar Expansion
Tesla has implemented a significant pricing update for its flagship electric pickup, increasing the cost of two popular Cybertruck variants by $5,000. The adjustments, which appeared on the company’s online configurator this week, arrive as the automaker continues to aggressively scale its manufacturing footprint in Texas.
Pricing Shifts
According to the latest data from the Tesla configurator, the entry-level Dual Motor Cybertruck now starts at $74,990. The Premium All-Wheel Drive model has seen a similar $5,000 bump, bringing its starting price to $84,990. Meanwhile, the top-tier “Cyberbeast” model remains unchanged, holding steady at $99,990.
The Premium All-Wheel Drive version continues to be a central offering in Tesla’s lineup, boasting an EPA-estimated range of 325 miles, an 11,000-pound towing capacity, and a high-performance 0-to-60 mph acceleration time of just 4.1 seconds.
Tesla has not publicly disclosed the reasoning behind the price adjustments, nor did the company immediately respond to inquiries regarding whether the changes coincide with modifications to vehicle features or production specifications.
Strategic Expansion in Texas
The pricing move follows reports of a much larger, long-term play by the Elon Musk-led company. Tesla has filed official plans for a massive $10.1 billion solar manufacturing plant near Houston. This project represents a significant pillar in Musk’s broader vision to expand domestic energy production. Industry analysts note that this shift underscores Tesla’s commitment to consolidating its supply chain and manufacturing operations within Texas, where the Cybertruck is already produced at the Gigafactory Texas facility.
Context of Production and Deliveries
The updated pricing comes as the EV maker navigates a shifting global market. In its most recent production and delivery report for the second quarter of 2026, Tesla announced 480,126 global vehicle deliveries. While the company provides aggregated data, the specific performance of the Cybertruck remains opaque, as it is grouped into an “Other Models” category—which saw 12,364 total deliveries last quarter—alongside older or less volume-heavy offerings.
The Cybertruck, which first reached customer driveways in late 2023, continues to be a polarizing but high-profile asset in Tesla’s portfolio.
