The Telangana Board of Intermediate Education (TGBIE) has officially announced an extension for the online registration deadline for students aspiring to enroll in Intermediate first-year courses for the upcoming 2026-27 academic year. Junior colleges now have until August 31, 2026, to finalize the registration process for their Class 11 candidates. This decision provides colleges with a valuable additional two weeks, as the previous deadline was set for August 15. All registration activities are to be conducted through the designated TGBIE academic portal, accessible at acadtgbie.cgg.gov.in.
Crucially, alongside this extension, TGBIE has re-emphasized the strict adherence to established reservation rules governing these admissions. This directive applies universally to all educational institutions offering Intermediate courses, encompassing government and private colleges, residential institutions, model colleges, KGBVs (Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas), welfare colleges, and composite degree colleges. The elaborate reservation framework ensures equitable access to education. It allocates 15% of seats for Scheduled Castes (SC), further segmented into Group I (1%), Group II (9%), and Group III (5%). Scheduled Tribes (ST) are granted a 10% reservation, while Backward Classes (BC) receive a substantial 29% share, distributed among BC-A (7%), BC-B (10%), BC-C (1%), BC-D (7%), and BC-E (4%). Beyond these, specific quotas are also in place for persons with disabilities (5%), NCC, sports, and extracurricular activities (5%), ex-servicemen and defence personnel residing in Telangana (3%), and the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) with a 10% reservation. A significant provision also mandates that one-third, or 33.33%, of the total seats must be reserved for female students in categories where dedicated girls’ colleges are not available, promoting gender equity in admissions.
Furthermore, TGBIE has clarified that there will be no separate entrance examination for admission to the first-year Intermediate course. Instead, college principals are instructed to base admissions solely on the Grade Point Average (GPA), subject-wise Grade Point (GP), and the marks secured by students in their qualifying examinations, strictly adhering to the applicable guidelines. This places a direct responsibility on colleges to meticulously follow these prescribed admission criteria and to meticulously maintain records of all candidates admitted under various categories.
In a move towards greater transparency and digital record-keeping, it is now mandatory for all students seeking Intermediate admission in TGBIE-affiliated colleges to provide their Aadhaar number during the application process. College managements are also obligated to ensure complete transparency regarding seat availability. This includes prominently displaying the sanctioned number of sections for the 2026-27 academic year, the number of seats already filled in each section, and the remaining vacant seats at the entrance of the college building. This information must be updated daily, allowing prospective students and their parents to readily access the most current data on seat availability.
Finally, TGBIE has issued a specific and sensitive instruction regarding children from the Jogini community. In such instances, principals are directed to enter the mother’s name instead of the father’s name in the admission records, aligning with the details present in the student’s qualifying examination documents. This particular instruction aims to ensure consistency and respect for existing educational documentation for this specific group of students.
