The Witcher 3 Remastered Resolution And Frame Rate For Switch 2 Revealed

CD Projekt Red Reveals Technical Specs and Motion Controls for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered on Switch 2

CD Projekt Red has pulled back the curtain on the highly anticipated Switch 2 version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered. During a recent livestream, the developer showcased a suite of technical enhancements and innovative control options that aim to modernize Geralt’s classic adventure for Nintendo’s next-generation hardware.

High-Definition Performance

The studio confirmed that the remaster will feature distinct performance profiles for handheld and docked play. When docked, the game is set to run at a crisp 1080p resolution. In handheld mode, players can expect a solid 720p output.

Regarding frame rate, CD Projekt Red is targeting a fluid 30–40fps range. Notably, the game will leverage Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) technology to ensure smooth performance. Those playing on monitors or TVs compatible with 120Hz refresh rates will see the game lean closer to that 40fps upper limit, providing a more responsive experience than previous console iterations.

Innovative Control Schemes

Perhaps the most surprising reveal is the integration of advanced control options. The remaster will introduce full gyro-aiming support, alongside a unique “mouse mode.” This feature can be set to “always-on” or configured to activate dynamically, intelligently detecting when a Joy-Con is placed on a surface to allow for precise cursor navigation.

Drawing inspiration from the Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition control suite, the developers have also implemented customizable “Motion Patterns.” These physical gestures allow players to perform in-game actions through movement—such as raising a Joy-Con to have Geralt whistle for his horse, Roach. These inputs are expected to offer a more tactile layer of immersion for long-time fans of the series.

Release Date and Upgrade Path

The gameplay footage shared during the stream highlighted these new features in action, showcasing a noticeable visual polish over the original Switch release.

Gamers eager to return to the Continent don’t have long to wait; The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered is scheduled to launch on September 29, 2026. CD Projekt Red confirmed that existing owners of the original Switch version will be eligible for a free upgrade, and pre-orders are currently live via the eShop.

With these technical upgrades and the addition of modern input methods, CD Projekt Red appears to be positioning this remaster as the definitive portable way to experience one of the greatest RPGs ever made.
