Tragic Loss: Three Family Members Drown in Sussex Sea, Young Girl Critical

SHOREHAM, SUSSEX – [Date of Publication] – A family outing to the Sussex coast turned to tragedy yesterday as three members of the same family drowned after encountering difficulties in the water off Kingston Beach, Shoreham. A fourth, younger girl from the family remains in hospital in a critical condition, prompting an outpouring of grief and shock across the community.

The deceased have been identified as a man, a woman, and a teenage girl, all foreign nationals, according to Chief Superintendent James Collis of Sussex Police. Their identities have not yet been released.

Emergency services were scrambled to the scene at approximately 3:00 PM after fishermen alerted authorities to four individuals struggling in the turbulent waters. What followed was a massive multi-agency response involving multiple lifeboats, air ambulances, and coastguard teams, as efforts were made to rescue those in distress.

Witnesses described a scene of unfolding horror as the severity of the situation became clear. Gary and Victoria Flint, who had taken their children to the beach for a day out, recounted the dramatic escalation of events. "We arrived at about three and soon after we heard the siren for the lifeboat," Victoria stated. "We watched it launch then about 20 minutes later, it came back. Ambulances started arriving – more and more of them – then the air ambulances started."

The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) confirmed that lifeboat crews from Shoreham were launched around 2:50 PM, quickly followed by two additional lifeboats from Brighton shortly after 3:00 PM. The HM Coastguard also mobilized, deploying a helicopter, alongside rescue teams from Littlehampton, Shoreham, and Newhaven.

All four family members were eventually brought to shore. Despite the valiant efforts of paramedics and medical personnel, the man, woman, and teenage girl tragically succumbed. The younger girl, whose age has not been specified, was rushed to hospital where she is fighting for her life. Authorities have confirmed that no other individuals are believed to be missing or in the water.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the unpredictable dangers of open water, even on seemingly calm days. Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances that led to this devastating loss of life.

Sussex Police will be providing further updates as their investigation progresses. The community mourns this profound tragedy and extends its deepest condolences to the affected family and friends.
