Worcester Woods Country Park, Waseley Hills Country Park, and St Wulstan’s Local Nature Reserve have all once again received the international quality mark for parks and green spaces, which is celebrating its 30th year.
This marks over a decade of consecutive wins for these much-loved sites, which continue to be recognised as among the best in the country.
The Green Flag Award recognises parks and green spaces that are managed to the highest standards, combining excellent environmental practices, outstanding maintenance, and high-quality visitor facilities.
Managed by Worcestershire County Council, the ongoing success of Worcestershire’s parks reflects the commitment, expertise, and hard work of the staff and volunteers who care for all of the valued greenspaces throughout the year.
Councillor Josh Robinson, Cabinet Member for Environment and Communities at Worcestershire County Council, said: “I’m thrilled that three of our green spaces have once again been awarded Green Flag status and recognised among a record-breaking 2,391 parks and green spaces across the UK to receive the award this year. These sites make a hugely important contribution to the health, wellbeing and quality of life of our residents and visitors, providing welcoming places for people to connect with nature and enjoy the outdoors.
“This recognition is a testament to the dedication of our staff and volunteers, whose hard work, expertise and passion ensure all of the Council’s greenspaces continue to thrive year after year. Their care and commitment are at the heart of this achievement, and I would like to extend my sincere thanks for everything they do to make Worcestershire’s countryside such a valued asset for our communities.”
Paul Todd MBE, Green Flag Award Manager at Keep Britain Tidy, added: “Parks are essential public spaces that support our wellbeing, our communities and our economy. Yet for millions of people, particularly in the most deprived areas, local parks simply don’t feel safe or welcoming.
“With public services under pressure, investing in parks is not a luxury, it’s a practical, preventative solution and one of the most visible ways to improve people’s quality of life. As we celebrate 30 years of the Green Flag Award, we want every community to have access to green spaces like this that are safe, welcoming and maintained to a high standard.
“Congratulations to everyone involved.”
The Green Flag Award scheme, managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy under contract from the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government, recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of green spaces across the United Kingdom and around the world.
