Yash’s ‘Toxic’ Faces Major Box Office Setback with Steep Second-Day Decline

The highly anticipated cinematic outing Toxic, directed by Geethu Mohandas and headlined by “Rocking Star” Yash, has hit a significant roadblock at the box office. After a massive opening, the film witnessed a sharp downward trajectory on its second day, raising concerns about its long-term performance.

According to early trade estimates, Toxic saw a staggering 55 percent drop on Thursday, raking in between Rs. 23 crore and Rs. 25 crore. This brings the total two-day collection of the project to approximately Rs. 75 crore.

Parallels to ‘Thugs of Hindostan’

Market analysts are drawing unfavorable comparisons to the performance of the Aamir Khan-starrer Thugs of Hindostan. Much like the 2018 film, which opened to massive numbers only to suffer a swift decline, Toxic appears to be following a similar trend. While Toxic debuted with a strong Rs. 50.31 crore on Wednesday, the subsequent dip to the Rs. 23–25 crore range echoes the trajectory of Thugs of Hindostan, which fell from Rs. 52.25 crore to Rs. 29.25 crore on its second day.

Examining the Decline

Industry reports suggest that audience reception has not matched the intense pre-release hype surrounding the film. The decline is widespread: while multiplex chains have reported a 50 percent drop in occupancy, the film has faced even steeper challenges in mass-market belts, where collections plummeted by 60 to 80 percent.

Despite the upcoming holiday weekend, which typically serves as a buffer for struggling films, trade experts fear further stagnation. The consensus suggests that while Yash’s immense star power was enough to secure a blockbuster opening, the film’s narrative content failed to sustain the momentum created by the marketing campaign.

What Lies Ahead for Yash

With the lukewarm reception of Toxic, all eyes have now shifted toward the actor’s future projects. The pressure on Yash to deliver a major hit is mounting, as the industry looks toward the Nitesh Tiwari-directed adaptation of the Ramayana. Given the scale and significance of that epic, there is a tremendous amount riding on the success of that production.

As stakeholders analyze the Toxic Hindi box office estimate, it remains to be seen if the film can stabilize over the coming weekend or if it will continue its current downward trend.
