Sai Abhyankkar Laments Missed Vijay Collaboration, Eyes Christopher Nolan Dream in Budding Career
Chennai, India – Sai Abhyankkar, a rapidly ascending star in the Tamil cinema music scene, is quickly carving a niche for himself with a string of impactful independent and film compositions. While his future looks bright with numerous high-profile projects, the young composer recently revealed a poignant regret: the seemingly lost opportunity to create music for actor-turned-politician Vijay.
Speaking emotionally at the India Today Tamil Nadu Roundtable in Chennai, Abhyankkar candidly shared his deep admiration for Vijay. "Don’t make me emotional. That’s a major chunk I will be missing in my life," he confessed, acknowledging the unlikelihood of a collaboration now that Vijay is transitioning to a full-time political career after completing his final film. "It’s not possible anymore, so I don’t know what to do. It was an absolute dream, without any doubt. I would have given a 16-track album." His heartfelt declaration underscores the immense creative potential he envisioned for such a partnership.
Abhyankkar further elaborated on Vijay’s evolving public persona, noting the actor’s remarkable transformation from a cinema icon to a revered figure with broad appeal. "He was a hero for cinema fans, but now he is a hero for everyone unanimously. That is an even bigger stage to be in," Abhyankkar observed, highlighting the significant impact Vijay’s political shift has had. For the composer, crafting an album for an artist commanding such widespread adoration would have been a monumental creative undertaking, as evidenced by his ambition to produce a sprawling 16-track record.
Despite this poignant missed opportunity, Sai Abhyankkar’s career trajectory remains robust. His recent work includes the film ‘Karuppu,’ and his upcoming slate boasts an impressive list of projects: Dhanush’s ‘Om,’ Vijay Sethupathi’s ‘Baththa,’ Raghava Lawrence and Nivin Pauly’s ‘Benz,’ Karthi’s ‘Marshal,’ Atlee and Allu Arjun’s ‘Raaka,’ ‘Suriya 48,’ and Dhanush-Vetrimaaran’s ‘Thamizh Murugan.’
Beyond his flourishing presence in Kollywood, Abhyankkar harbors another ambitious dream: to collaborate with acclaimed Hollywood filmmaker Christopher Nolan. "I want to work with Christopher Nolan," he stated, recalling an AI-generated video depicting Nolan discussing his music. "I hope one day that happens for real."
While a dream collaboration with Vijay may remain unfulfilled, Sai Abhyankkar’s burgeoning talent, coupled with a packed schedule of high-profile film projects and a bold vision for the future, ensures that his musical journey is only just beginning to gain significant momentum.
