Box Office Update: Suriya’s ‘Vishwanath and Sons’ Crosses ₹200 Crore Milestone Despite Third-Week Dip
The box office landscape continues to evolve as Suriya and Mamitha Baiju’s latest cinematic outing, Vishwanath and Sons, maintains its momentum despite a noticeable cooling in its third week. While the film has officially crossed the coveted ₹200-crore mark globally, recent data indicates a slight dip in daily domestic collections.
‘Vishwanath and Sons’ Faces Third-Week Headwinds
According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film recorded an estimated ₹59 lakh net collection in India on its 20th day. This figure marks a 21.3% decline compared to the ₹75 lakh earned the previous day. Despite the drop, the film has achieved a commendable domestic net total of ₹118.09 crore, with its India gross reaching ₹136.74 crore.
Supported by a robust performance in international markets—which contributed ₹64.75 crore—the film’s worldwide gross has now climbed to an impressive Vishwanath and Sons milestone of ₹201.49 crore.
On Day 20, the film’s 1,232 screenings across India saw an overall occupancy of 18.5%. The Tamil version outperformed its Telugu counterpart, earning ₹29 lakh with a 23.35% occupancy rate, while the Telugu version brought in ₹30 lakh with a 16.5% occupancy rate.
‘Hi’ Gains Traction in Debut Week
Meanwhile, the Nayanthara and Kavin-starrer Hi is currently navigating its first week of theatrical release. On its sixth day, the drama pulled in ₹73 lakh net across India. While this represents a 17% decrease from its Day 5 earnings of ₹88 lakh, the film has managed to stabilize its position with a total domestic net collection of ₹8.21 crore and a gross of ₹9.54 crore. The Tamil version accounted for the majority of these earnings, with the Telugu version contributing a modest ₹5 lakh.
‘DC’ Hits Century Mark
In other industry developments, Lokesh Kanagaraj’s DC has reached a significant achievement, officially surpassing the ₹100-crore mark in worldwide gross earnings. The film currently sits at ₹102.70 crore globally. In the domestic circuit, the film has secured an India net collection of ₹69 crore, with overseas markets contributing an additional ₹23.30 crore, accounting for roughly 22.7% of its total global haul.
