Bank of America Vice President Fatally Stabbed in Times Square in Random Attack
A harrowing scene unfolded in the heart of New York City on Monday as a Bank of America executive was stabbed and killed in what police are describing as a random, unprovoked attack. The assailant was neutralized by officers following a tense four-minute standoff near Times Square.
The victim has been identified as 32-year-old Erin Piacenti, a vice president at Bank of America. According to the New York Police Department, Piacenti was stabbed in the stomach during the encounter. She was rushed to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
A Random Act of Violence
The suspect, identified by police as 49-year-old Pamela Cisneros, reportedly entered the area armed with two kitchen knives. Authorities say Cisneros attacked another man before turning her aggression toward Piacenti. The first victim was transported to a hospital and remained in stable condition as of Monday night.
NYPD Commissioner Jessica S. Tisch confirmed that the stabbings appeared to be entirely unprovoked. Tisch also noted that Cisneros had a “documented mental health history” and previous interactions with law enforcement.
Footage of the confrontation, which has since circulated on social media, shows a group of officers attempting to de-escalate the situation as Cisneros refused repeated demands to drop her weapons. Despite the officers’ attempts to deploy a taser, the suspect continued to advance toward them with the knives, ultimately prompting police to open fire. Cisneros was pronounced dead at the scene.

Bank of America issued a statement on Tuesday expressing deep sorrow over the loss. “We are shocked and deeply saddened by the death of our teammate, Erin Piacenti,” the company stated. “She was a valued member of our firm who will be greatly missed. Our hearts go out to her family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.”
Piacenti was a high-ranking professional within the firm, serving as a vice president in Bank of America’s business selection and conflicts unit. According to her professional profile, she held a strong academic background, having earned an undergraduate degree in political science from the University of Pennsylvania and a law degree from Fordham University School of Law.

The tragedy has sent shockwaves through the city, drawing parallels to the 2024 assassination of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson, a high-profile case that remains in the public consciousness as the defendant, Luigi Mangione, faces ongoing legal proceedings.
While the incident has prompted renewed concerns regarding safety in the city’s busiest transit hubs, official statistics suggest a downward trend in violent crime. Data from the NYPD indicates that major crime complaints in New York City are down 6.2% year-to-date compared to 2025, with murder rates showing a significant decline of 24.6%. The Midtown South precinct, which oversees the Times Square area, has recorded only two murders so far this year.
