Widnes Road Rage Terror: Gun-Wielding Motorist Sparks Manhunt After Mid-Street Standoff

A major manhunt is underway in Widnes after a terrifying road rage incident involving a man suspected to be armed with a handgun.

The incident occurred at approximately 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 14, at the busy junction of Appleton Village and Fairfield Road. According to Cheshire Police, a 38-year-old woman and a 60-year-old man were stationary in their Peugeot 3008 when they became the targets of an aggressive confrontation.

The driver of a silver and black mountain motorbike reportedly approached the stationary vehicle and initiated an altercation. During the encounter, the motorcyclist allegedly made a series of threats toward the two occupants, with police stating that the suspect may have been in possession of a handgun. Following the threats, the suspect fled the scene on his bike, heading in the direction of Park Avenue.

Officers arrived at the scene shortly after the incident was reported and conducted an extensive search of the surrounding area. Despite these efforts, the suspect was not located.

Detective Sergeant Chris Sheffield, of Widnes CID, acknowledged the alarm the incident has caused within the local community. “I understand the concern this incident is likely to cause, and I would like to reassure residents that we are committed to doing all we can to establish exactly what has taken place,” he said. “Enquiries are ongoing and I urge anyone who witnessed the incident to get in touch.”

Police have released a physical description of the suspect, who is described as a white male with a skinny build, appearing to be approximately 45 years old. At the time of the incident, he was seen with stubble and was wearing a black cap. He was dressed in a grey and black tracksuit, which featured a distinct grey pattern across the chest and arms.

As part of the ongoing investigation, authorities are calling on local residents to review any private CCTV, doorbell cameras, or dashcam footage captured in the vicinity of Appleton Village and Park Avenue during the mid-afternoon. Even minor details could prove vital in identifying the individual responsible for the incident.

Detective Sergeant Sheffield added: “The same goes for anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage which may aid our investigation. Anyone with any information, no matter how small, is urged to contact the team here at Widnes on 101, or via the Cheshire Police website, quoting IML-2438031.”

Police have confirmed that the investigation remains active as they work to track down the suspect and ensure public safety in the area.
