Following his injury in the Superpole Race at Balaton, in which the #88 suffered fractures to his shoulder blade and ribs, injuries to his shoulder tendons, and a concussion, Miguel Oliveira will now not be taking part in the next Superbike round at Most in less than two weeks. It appears Miguel has decided to focus on his recovery, thus handing over to Michael van der Mark.
“Obviously, I’m very disappointed, because with the podium we secured on Saturday in Hungary, we proved we were on the right path toward victory,” said Oliveira. “Unfortunately, in racing, setbacks like injuries can happen. Now I’ll focus entirely on getting back to 100% fitness and returning to my team and my BMW M 1000 RR as soon as possible. I want to thank everyone who helped me after the crash in Hungary. Thanks also to van der Mark: I know my bike is in good hands at Most.”
The Dutch test rider echoed his sentiments: “First of all, I wish Miguel a speedy recovery,” said van der Mark. “I’m ready and will give it my all to settle in quickly. My job will be to support BMW Motorrad Motorsport and the team at Most as best I can, gather important data for the rest of the season, and, of course, score as many points as possible.”
