Yash explains why ‘Toxic’ will resonate with Gen Z and their questions about older generations: ‘Why are there such rigid rules? Why should we have to do things a certain way?’

Kannada superstar Yash is poised for a significant return to the silver screen, marking nearly four years since the monumental success of ‘KGF 2’. With two highly anticipated projects on his slate—the eagerly awaited ‘Toxic’ and the ambitious mythological epic ‘Ramayana’—Yash has been actively engaging with the media. During recent promotions, he elaborated on Geetu Mohandas’s directorial venture, ‘Toxic’, particularly highlighting its strong connection with the younger demographic.

Yash articulated his belief that ‘Toxic’ will deeply resonate with Gen Z, explaining that each successive generation possesses distinct characteristics and a unique perspective on the world. He observed that older generations frequently perceive the youth as having strayed from established norms. However, Yash posited that this generational tension is a recurring phenomenon throughout history, emphasizing the importance of allowing each generation the autonomy to forge its own path. He eloquently stated, “The next generation that comes along will always be better. And the generation that passes the baton tends to feel that the next one has gone astray. That’s a lifelong, age-old problem. But we have to understand one thing: the world belongs to the youngsters.” He further stressed that every generation inherently possesses its own voice and the fundamental right to express its convictions freely, asserting, “When our time comes, we have to do our thing. When your time comes, you will do yours—whatever your voice is, your inner voice, your freedom of speech, and whatever people want to talk about.”

Beyond its generational appeal, Yash also delved into the mature themes explored within ‘Toxic’. He drew a clear distinction between vulgarity and aesthetic presentation, affirming his commitment to portraying sensitive content with artistic integrity. He remarked, “Vulgarity is wrong; I haven’t even shown a kiss, if you’ve noticed. There’s a line, and we know it too. You have to shoot it in an aesthetic way, and the visceral impact it leaves afterward—that is the impact of cinema. That is the creator’s voice.” He underlined that ‘Toxic’ is specifically crafted around the prevalent questions and challenges that many young people pose to older generations.

Yash further elaborated on the film’s central premise, indicating that it authentically captures the ongoing conversations among Gen Z. He stated, “This film is made with an intent where those emotions are very, very important. When you watch the film, you will understand it. It is for Gen Z. It is for the conversations you all are having—the issues you have with seniors, the questions you raise about that generation, and what’s wrong with asking them. Why are there such rigid rules? Why should we have to do things a certain way? Whatever your thoughts are, that is the primal aspect of this film.” ‘Toxic’, directed by Geetu Mohandas, boasts a stellar ensemble cast featuring Yash alongside Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Tara Sutaria, Rukmini Vasanth, and Huma Qureshi. The film is slated for a global release on August 26th.
