York MP to host climate and environment conference designed by young people

The York Central MP is hosting a climate and environment conference designed by young people.

MP Rachael Maskell is hosting the Our Planet, Our Future conference, which will be held at the University of York’s STEM Centre on June 20.

The event is the result of collaboration with young people across York, who helped design the programme and shape the day.

Ms Maskell said: “I have been blown away by the young people of our city in the way that they have worked to put on their conference, Our Planet, Our Future.

“It has been so inspiring to work with their ideas, whether groups at primary and secondary schools, or our young champions who have been the steering group for this event.”

The conference will feature speakers, workshops, and engagement opportunities with politicians and climate agencies.

Ms Maskell added: “The conference is for all young people to share, learn, and explore how we protect our environment and planet, from the pressures of biodiversity loss, changing weather patterns, and ultimately our actions.

“Young people will learn how to use their power to make the case for our planet, and we will work together to build a better future.”
