Family of Maharashtra Teenager, Parents Who Died in Tragic Fall Refute ‘iPhone EMI’ Narrative

CHHATRAPATI SAMBHAJINAGAR: In the wake of a devastating tragedy that claimed the lives of an 18-year-old boy and his parents in Maharashtra, the grieving family is speaking out against widespread speculation surrounding the incident. The aunt of the teenager has publicly dismissed claims that the family’s demise was solely linked to a dispute over an iPhone’s Equated Monthly Installment (EMI) payments.

The incident, which occurred on August 21 at Khavda Hill, saw the teenager fall into a 250-foot-deep gorge after threatening suicide. In a desperate attempt to save him, his father also fell, followed shortly after by his mother, who witnessed the horrific sequence of events.

A Plea to Stop Speculation

The teenager’s aunt issued an emotional appeal via a social media video, pleading with the public to stop spreading unverified rumors regarding the motives behind the tragedy.

“They were none other than my elder sister, my sister’s son, and my brother-in-law. You have expressed your opinions through these videos, but you know nothing,” she said, according to reports. “You don’t know us, and you are unaware of the truth behind any of this. And yet you continue to spread a false narrative. Do you realize how much pain these videos are causing my parents?”

She urged onlookers and social media users to consider the impact of their words on the surviving relatives, particularly the grandparents, who are in their 70s and struggling to process the loss of three family members. Her appeal highlights the growing frustration among families when digital discourse overshadows the reality of a tragic accident involving their loved ones.

Complex History and Ongoing Investigation

While early reports suggested the conflict stemmed from the teenager’s demand for money to pay off an iPhone, authorities are now investigating whether other underlying issues contributed to the boy’s mental state. It has been revealed that this was not the teenager’s first suicide attempt; he had reportedly tried to jump from the same cliff last year, at which time police were able to intervene and persuade him to step back.

The events on the day of the incident lasted nearly three hours. Despite the efforts of local villagers, police, and fire personnel—who attempted to deploy safety nets and negotiate with the teen—the situation turned fatal when the father climbed the hill in a final effort to pull his son to safety.

As the investigation continues, the police are reviewing all circumstances surrounding the family’s final moments. The incident has once again sparked a national conversation about mental health awareness and the responsible use of social media during traumatic events.
