Gurugram Woman Arrested After Video of Domestic Help Assault Goes Viral
Gurugram, India – A 52-year-old woman, Ruchira Sachdeva, residing in DLF The Camellias in Sector-42, Gurugram, was arrested Monday after a video of her assaulting her domestic help went viral on social media. Sachdeva, who was seen pulling her help’s hair, hitting her with a phone, and berating her, was later released on bail.
According to Gurugram Police, the incident occurred on July 24 but only came to light after the video circulated widely. The 90-second footage, secretly recorded by a neighbor, shows Sachdeva confronting her domestic help in a kitchen. The video depicts Sachdeva pulling the help by her hair, slapping her with a mobile phone, and issuing threats. As the domestic help attempts to free herself, Sachdeva continues to assault her, hitting her on the back and pulling her hair, all while speaking aggressively and ordering her to stand in a corner.
The individual who filmed the incident alleged that Sachdeva had confiscated the help’s mobile phone and kept her confined within the house. Preliminary investigations suggest the altercation stemmed from a work-related argument. The domestic help subsequently quit her job on July 27.
The arrest was made by a team from the Sushant Lok police station, which took suo motu cognizance of the viral video.
