'X-Men' cast unveiled at D23: Sadie Sink, Adam Driver, Kit Connor, Inde Navarrette and more join MCU reboot

Marvel Studios has officially unveiled the highly anticipated cast for its upcoming X-Men reboot, generating immense excitement among fans. At the recent D23 event, Kevin Feige, the architect of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, took the stage to announce the ensemble, detailing both the leading stars and the iconic characters they will portray. This announcement confirms much of the speculation that has been circulating within the fan community.

Following her notable appearance as Jean Grey in the blockbuster film ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day,’ Sadie Sink is confirmed to reprise her role, solidifying her position as a pivotal figure in the MCU’s burgeoning mutant storyline. The long-rumored additions of Kit Connor and Inde Navarrette to the Mutant saga were also officially confirmed during Feige’s presentation.

The newly revealed cast members and their roles include Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Kit Connor as Cyclops, Christopher Abbott as Professor X, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Inde Navarrette as Rogue, and Maya Boyd as Storm. A significant reveal came with Adam Driver’s casting as the formidable Nathaniel Milbury, universally recognized as Mister Sinister. The film will be helmed by Jake Schreier, known for his work on Marvel’s ‘Thunderbolts.’

One of the most striking moments of the presentation was the announcement of Adam Driver’s involvement. Driver appeared in a video message, playfully confirming his role as Nathaniel Milbury, the human alter ego of the notorious mutant geneticist and supervillain, Mister Sinister. Driver quipped about his initial assumption of being on set, explaining his current location at Pinewood Studios. He elaborated on his longstanding discussions with Kevin Feige about joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, expressing his belief that they have finally found the perfect project at the opportune moment. His excitement was palpable as he revealed his character: “So I’m very excited to be playing Mag…. Nope. Even better. Nathaniel Milbury. So I’ll be right here, waiting for everybody to show up.” Driver’s inclusion brings a major antagonist from the X-Men comic books into the MCU’s evolving mutant narrative. Mister Sinister, a character co-created by Chris Claremont and Marc Silvestri, is renowned for his dark obsession with mutant genetics and his penchant for dangerous experimentation.

The powers of these iconic mutants are integral to their characters. Sadie Sink’s Jean Grey is a powerful mutant telepath and telekinetic, a cornerstone of the X-Men team. Cyclops, portrayed by Kit Connor, is one of the X-Men’s most prominent leaders in the comics, capable of emitting devastating optic blasts. Samara Weaving’s Emma Frost is a formidable telepath who also possesses the unique ability to transform her body into an impervious diamond form. Inde Navarrette’s Rogue has the dangerous power to absorb the abilities and memories of any other mutant through touch, while Maya Boyd’s Storm wields control over the elements, manipulating weather patterns with incredible precision.

This new film marks a fresh era for the X-Men within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, following Disney’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox, which brought the film rights of the beloved mutant team under Marvel Studios’ control. The new X-Men film is strategically positioned within Marvel’s broader multiverse storyline. Intriguingly, several stars from the previous Fox X-Men franchise are slated to return in ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ including Patrick Stewart as Professor Charles Xavier, Ian McKellen as Magneto, James Marsden as Cyclops, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, and Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler. Channing Tatum is also expected to reprise his role as Gambit, having made his debut as the character in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine.’

‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, is scheduled for release on December 18, 2026, with ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ following on December 17, 2027. Marvel has strongly indicated that ‘Secret Wars’ will directly pave the way for a new era for mutants and the X-Men. Fans eagerly anticipate the untitled X-Men film, which Marvel has confirmed will premiere exclusively in theaters on May 5, 2028, heralding a new chapter in entertainment.
