Abishek Porel, a prominent cricketer associated with both the Delhi Capitals and the Bengal team, has been denied bail in connection with a serious rape case involving a medical student. A recent court decision on Friday mandated his placement into judicial custody for a period of fourteen days, signifying a significant development in the ongoing legal proceedings.
Porel’s arrest took place on August 11th in Hooghly, following an extensive questioning session related to a complaint lodged by a young woman. Her allegations against the cricketer encompass charges of rape, blackmail, and several other offenses. Subsequent to his arrest, he underwent a medical examination before being formally presented before the Chinsurah court. Kunar Bhushan Singh, the Superintendent of Police for Hooghly (Rural), confirmed the arrest, stating that a case had been filed against Porel, leading to a court order for his apprehension. Singh further elaborated that Porel was taken into custody late on the night of August 10th and was scheduled for court appearance the following day.
The complainant’s detailed statement outlines a complex and disturbing narrative. She alleges that Porel initiated a romantic relationship with her under the explicit promise of marriage. However, after the relationship reportedly ended, she claims he resorted to threatening to disseminate private photographs of her. In response to these serious allegations, the police have registered a case encompassing 19 sections, a majority of which pertain to non-bailable offenses, underscoring the gravity of the accusations.
Further revelations within the complaint detail a specific incident that allegedly occurred in Delhi on April 2nd, 2026. The woman claims she was confined, deprived of food, and intentionally isolated during this period, leading to her becoming physically weakened and unable to walk properly.
