He revealed that SPB never anticipated his hospital visit would tragically become his last journey. Gangai Amaran recalled, “When he was admitted to the hospital, I called him. He told me, ‘I’m only going for a check-up. I’ll be back in four days. You can come and meet me after that. Don’t come to the hospital now.'” As SPB’s health unfortunately deteriorated, direct communication became impossible, and Gangai Amaran was only able to speak with him via video call. “When I saw him with tubes attached to his nose, I told him, ‘You are the man who always wore headphones to sing. Break those tubes and throw them away.’ It was very painful to see him like that,” he shared, visibly moved by the memory. It was during this intensely emotional period that Gangai Amaran unveiled a profoundly touching revelation: “During those final moments, he had one wish. He really wanted to see Ilaiyaraaja.”
