Chhattisgarh to Revolutionize Tribal Education with AI and Robotics

Raipur, Chhattisgarh – In a pioneering move to bridge the technological gap and empower its tribal population, the Chhattisgarh government is set to introduce comprehensive AI-enabled learning modules across its government schools, open schools, and colleges. This ambitious initiative aims to equip tribal students with cutting-edge skills relevant to emerging technologies and industry demands, preparing them for future career opportunities.

The proposed modules will be meticulously structured to cater to various educational levels, ensuring a progressive learning curve. The Department of Tribal, SC, OBC and Minority Development, spearheading this initiative, is also exploring the establishment of dedicated AI and robotics laboratories, alongside specialized courses tailored for college students. This expansion builds upon the successful foundation of the Prayas Residential School model, which has primarily focused on competitive examination preparation.

Phased Implementation of AI Modules

Sonmoni Borah, Principal Secretary of the Department of Tribal, SC, OBC and Minority Development, highlighted that digital literacy is already being imparted through instructor-led, AI-enabled learning in schools. The department’s vision includes a phased introduction of structured and certified AI modules. The curriculum will commence with foundational AI concepts, gradually advancing to more complex applications of artificial intelligence and other digital technologies. For higher education, the department is considering intensive AI courses that students can pursue concurrently with their regular academic programs, offering a dual advantage of specialized skills and a formal degree.

This significant educational reform follows a recent interaction between Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and NEET-qualified students. During this interaction, the Chief Minister underscored his commitment to enhancing facilities and strengthening the Prayas education system, signaling a clear direction towards educational advancement.

Prayas Schools: A Hub for Competitive Success and Beyond

The Prayas schools have witnessed substantial academic expansion over the past year. Esteemed faculty members and experts from prestigious institutions like IITs and renowned coaching centers have been imparting knowledge to students in Bastar and other regions of Chhattisgarh. This enhanced teaching support has been particularly beneficial for students preparing for highly competitive examinations such as JEE and NEET. Beyond these traditional competitive fields, students are also being introduced to futuristic domains like quantum computing and semiconductors, broadening their career horizons and exposure to cutting-edge technologies.

Khyati Lehre, a NEET qualifier from Gudhyari in Raipur, credits the exceptional learning environment at Prayas for her success. She specifically praised the state-of-the-art facilities, including air-conditioned classrooms, mini-halls, computer laboratories, and a distraction-free campus, all of which contributed significantly to her preparation.

Inspiring the Next Generation of Technologists

The faculty members at Prayas schools report a burgeoning interest among students in technology-driven careers. Satyam Agrawal, an IIT Kharagpur alumnus who teaches Physics to JEE aspirants in Classes XI and XII, remarked, "I don’t find it difficult to control them; my whole energy goes into teaching." He observed that approximately 90% of his students aspire to pursue studies at IITs, while others have shown keen interest in careers within the NDA and Navy. Agrawal further noted the students’ remarkable punctuality and consistently high academic output, often exceeding expectations.

Through the planned AI-enabled modules and new facilities, the Department of Tribal, SC, OBC and Minority Development aims to extend this technology-focused learning to students in even the most remote tribal areas of Chhattisgarh, fostering a new generation of skilled professionals and innovators. This initiative marks a pivotal step towards inclusive technological advancement and economic empowerment for the tribal communities of the state.
