IIT Bombay Unveils Advanced e-Postgraduate Diploma in Computer Science and AI, Featuring Generative AI and LLMs

Mumbai, India – The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) has announced the launch of a groundbreaking e-Postgraduate Diploma in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence. This innovative program is meticulously designed to merge the foundational principles of computer science with cutting-edge advancements in artificial intelligence and machine learning, including dedicated modules on Generative AI and Large Language Models (LLMs).

Offered through IIT Bombay Educational Outreach, the diploma will be delivered by esteemed faculty members of IIT Bombay, in partnership with Great Learning as the EdTech collaborator. The program boasts a blended learning approach, combining synchronous and asynchronous online learning sessions with a crucial in-person campus immersion experience at IIT Bombay.

The curriculum is tailored for a diverse audience, including experienced software developers, engineers, IT professionals, and data scientists already possessing a background in computer science. Fresh graduates with a solid understanding of computer science fundamentals are also encouraged to apply.

The comprehensive program is structured into two distinct "baskets": Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning. To successfully complete the diploma, students must undertake six courses, ensuring a minimum of two courses are selected from each basket. While the program can be completed within an intensive one-year timeframe, learners are afforded the flexibility to extend their studies up to three years, accommodating varied professional commitments.

The Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning basket delves into highly topical and critical areas such as Generative AI, Large Language Models (LLMs), AI Agents, Retrieval-Augmented Generation, Model Context Protocol, Reinforcement Learning, Computer Vision, Natural Language Processing, and Deep Learning. Complementing these advanced topics, the Computer Science basket covers essential domains like Algorithms and Complexity, Blockchain, Web and Software Security, Cryptography and Network Security, and Big Data System Internals.

Highlighting the program’s unique value proposition, Professor Vinay J. Ribeiro, e-PGD (CS and AI) Faculty Coordinator in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at IIT Bombay, emphasized, "This program will equip learners not just to utilize AI tools, but to grasp Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence at a foundational level. This deeper understanding will empower them to adapt, compete, and excel in the increasingly AI-centric world we are entering."

Mohan Lakhamraju, Founder and CEO of Great Learning, echoed this sentiment, stating, "AI is rapidly becoming integral to software development and computing systems. Professionals require more than just familiarity with AI tools; they need strong foundations in computer science and a comprehensive understanding of how its principles support the design and deployment of reliable, scalable AI systems."

A significant benefit for successful graduates of this program is the conferment of IIT Bombay e-alumni status, granting them access to the institute’s extensive and influential global network.

Established in 1958, IIT Bombay has a long-standing legacy of academic excellence and was granted Institution of Eminence status by the Ministry of Education on July 9, 2018. Over six decades, the institution has proudly produced more than 75,000 highly skilled engineers and scientists. Further details about the e-Postgraduate Diploma in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence can be found on the IIT Bombay Department of Computer Science and Engineering website.
