Govinda’s Manager Slams Sunita Ahuja After Divorce Plea Withdrawal: "Why Become a Spectacle?"
Mumbai, India – The tumultuous marital journey of veteran actor Govinda and his wife Sunita Ahuja has once again captured public attention, as Sunita recently withdrew a divorce petition filed against the actor. This development follows her appearance at a family court with her son, Yashvardhan Ahuja, and their legal counsel. While Sunita remained tight-lipped about the purpose of her visit, Govinda’s manager, Shashi Sinha, later confirmed the withdrawal of the petition, expressing both relief and dismay at the public nature of the proceedings.
Speaking to NDTV, Sinha voiced his contentment over the resolution but questioned the initial decision to escalate the matter to court. "Zarurat nahi thi jaane ki. Ghar ki baatein ghar mein reh ke, baith ke baatein karke, bahut sab cheezein hoti hain. Aaj wapas lena tha, to kiya tha kyun? Ye baat ka mujhe dukh ho gaya. Kahe ko phir tamaasha hum log ban gaye?" (There was no need for people to know about it. Matters concerning the family could have been discussed and resolved privately, within the home. If the intention was to withdraw the case today, then why was it filed in the first place? That is what saddens me. Why did we have to become a spectacle for everyone?), Sinha stated, highlighting the unnecessary public scrutiny and potential damage to the family’s reputation that arose from the court proceedings.
Sinha emphasized that marital disagreements are common and could often be resolved through private dialogue, suggesting that the couple’s differences, which had been public knowledge for nearly two years, had created undue drama. He further commented on Govinda’s understated reaction to the withdrawal, saying, "Bhagwan sabko sadbuddhi dein, sab log buddhi se chalein (May God grant wisdom to everyone and may people act sensibly. That is what is best). Bas yahi achha hai. Confusion and misunderstandings within a family can be resolved by sitting together and talking. Problems may become big, but they are not impossible to sort out."
Sunita’s court appearance earlier this week, accompanied by Yashvardhan, had immediately sparked renewed speculation about her marriage. When confronted by paparazzi, she playfully evaded questions about her visit, quipping, “Birthday manane aaye hai (I came to celebrate birthday)” before departing in her car.
This latest chapter unfolds amidst heightened scrutiny of the couple’s relationship, particularly after Govinda was recently photographed at an airport with his rumored girlfriend, Komal Rani Swarnkar. Sunita’s sharp public reaction to this sighting, where she reportedly referred to Govinda as a ‘sugar daddy,’ was met with Govinda’s public admonition for her to "remain within her limits" and accusations of defamation.
Govinda and Sunita tied the knot in March 1987, initially keeping their marriage private. They have two children: daughter Tina, born in 1988, and son Yashvardhan, born in 1997. Previous reports had indicated that Sunita filed for divorce at Mumbai’s Bandra Family Court on December 5, 2024, citing adultery, cruelty, and desertion under the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955. However, their subsequent public appearances together during Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations seemed to quell these rumors. Govinda has also been a visible supporter of Sunita during her appearances on shows such as "Lock Upp Season 2" and "Maa Hai Na."
With the withdrawal of the divorce petition, the Govinda-Sunita saga takes another unexpected turn, leaving many to wonder about the true nature of their enduring, albeit often turbulent, bond.
