Bayern Munich Star Jamal Musiala Ruled Out of Supercup Following Medical Diagnosis

MUNICH — Bayern Munich has confirmed that midfield sensation Jamal Musiala will be sidelined for Saturday’s German Supercup clash against Borussia Dortmund. The Bundesliga giants have opted to prioritize the player’s long-term health, choosing not to rush his return following two alarming on-pitch collapses during the pre-season.

The decision follows an update from the club and the player himself regarding his medical status. Earlier this week, Musiala revealed that he has been diagnosed with "temporary, brief, but easily treatable absence seizures" stemming from a neurological dysfunction.

Medication Adjustment Identified as Trigger

Bayern Munich’s board member for sport, Max Eberl, provided clarity on why the issue, which the club had been managing privately for some time, suddenly became visible to the public. According to the club, a recent change in the 23-year-old’s medication is the primary cause of the recent episodes.

"He changed something in the medication, which is why the episodes became visible," Eberl explained. "Now, we want to get back to the point where it was before, when these episodes did not occur."

The incidents first drew concern during a pre-season friendly against RB Leipzig, where Musiala appeared dazed and lost his balance. A second episode followed just four days later during a match against Heidenheim. In both instances, medical staff rushed to the pitch, and teammates quickly moved to protect his privacy while he was attended to. Despite the disorienting nature of the events, Musiala was able to leave the field under his own power on both occasions.

A Message of Optimism

Seeking to quell growing concerns among the fanbase, Musiala took to social media to share his diagnosis directly. "I know these things might seem scary at first glance, but for me, they are currently part of my everyday life," he wrote on Instagram. "I’m receiving the best medical treatment and am very optimistic. Importantly, there is no further health risk."

Head coach Vincent Kompany emphasized that the club has been working closely with medical experts to adjust the midfielder’s treatment plan. "We’ve been dealing with it for longer… that initial shock was a while ago, since then we’ve been given a lot more information and have made decisions with the help of the best experts," Kompany stated.

Impact on Bayern’s Trophy Bid

The absence of the €100 million-rated playmaker is a significant blow for Bayern Munich as they head into the Supercup—a high-stakes encounter against rivals Borussia Dortmund. However, both the club and the coaching staff are firm in their stance that there is no room for haste.

While Musiala has been training individually this week, the focus remains on stabilizing his condition. "It’s about adapting to the treatment," Eberl noted. "He’s made a huge step forward in his football… we’re looking forward to when he can show that in matches again."

As Bayern continues to navigate this delicate situation, the football community remains focused on the Jamal Musiala recovery process, with the club expressing full confidence that their star midfielder will return to the pitch once his medical regimen is successfully recalibrated.
