Embark Studios to Halt ARC Raiders Expeditions for Major Overhaul

Embark Studios has announced a significant shift in the development of ARC Raiders, confirming that the game’s controversial "Expeditions" system will be placed on an extended hiatus. Following the conclusion of the upcoming fifth event, the studio plans to take the mechanic offline to facilitate a comprehensive redesign, with a return to the game scheduled for early 2027.

The Expeditions feature has long been a point of contention within the community. Designed as a high-stakes challenge, it allows players to reset their Raider in exchange for permanent upgrades, including expanded loot storage, skill points, cosmetics, and various buffs. While the system offered a clear path to progression, many players found the loop to be restrictive and tedious, especially those who had participated in multiple cycles.

Addressing Player Feedback

In an official statement, the team behind the game acknowledged that the core issues—specifically tight departure windows, accessibility hurdles for new players, and an unbalanced reward structure—require more than minor adjustments. "Some of the issues you’ve raised need more than incremental fixes," the developers noted. "They call for bigger changes."

To bridge the gap until the rework is complete, Embark Studios is implementing adjustments for "The 5th Expedition," which is scheduled to run from September 8 through September 29. These tweaks are intended to alleviate the tedium of the reset process for long-time players before the system enters its long-term suspension.

What This Means for Players

The studio was quick to reassure the community that this pause does not equate to a loss of progress. Existing consecutive buffs earned through previous cycles will persist throughout the hiatus. Furthermore, players who successfully complete all five Expeditions will earn the exclusive Zenith Outfit as a reward.

For those currently working through Caravans, the reset will result in any partially completed progress being converted into "Ermal Vouchers." These vouchers will hold an equal value to the player’s current progress and can be traded for in-game items, firearms, or sold for Coin, ensuring that time invested is not entirely lost.
