Rebel Wolves Unveils Performance Details for The Blood of Dawnwalker Ahead of September Launch
Rebel Wolves and publisher Bandai Namco have released new console gameplay footage for their highly anticipated action RPG, The Blood of Dawnwalker, while simultaneously clarifying the game’s performance targets on current-gen hardware.
The developer confirmed that The Blood of Dawnwalker will feature two distinct graphics modes when it launches on September 3 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. On both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, players can choose between a "Quality Mode," which targets 30fps at a dynamic 4K resolution, or a "Balanced Mode," which pushes for 40fps at a dynamic 4K resolution.
The upcoming PlayStation 5 Pro will utilize the same frame rate targets and resolution settings, though the studio promises "enhanced visual quality" across both modes to take advantage of the upgraded hardware.
Community Concerns Over 60fps Absence
Despite the technical transparency, the news has sparked a wave of disappointment within the gaming community. Notably, the lack of a 60fps performance mode has left many prospective players vocal about their expectations.
“I was excited, but I guess I’ll be waiting for a performance patch,” one user commented on the reveal video. Another viewer echoed the sentiment, stating, “I’d rather have the option of playing at 1080p at 60fps rather than 4K at 40fps.” As of now, Rebel Wolves has not indicated whether a higher-frame-rate mode is in development for post-launch release.
High Expectations for the Debut Title
Despite the technical debate, there is significant hype surrounding the studio’s debut project. The Blood of Dawnwalker is spearheaded by game director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, who previously served as the game director for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and held leadership roles for Cyberpunk 2077.
In a recent hands-on preview, VGC’s Jordan Middler praised the project, noting that it "instantly became one of my most anticipated games" following four hours of play. Middler added that the game possesses a level of polish rarely seen in a studio’s first outing: “The Blood of Dawnwalker doesn’t feel like the first game from a new studio. There’s a level of experience in the bones of this game that is evident from the opening moments.”
As the September 3 release date approaches, players are eager to see if the title can deliver on its high potential. You can find more details regarding the console gameplay and graphics modes on VGC.
