Infinity Ward Deploys Major Patch for Modern Warfare 4 Beta Following Player Feedback
Following a high-energy opening day of the Early Access period, Infinity Ward has wasted no time refining the experience for the Modern Warfare 4 beta. The developer has officially rolled out its first major update, targeting key pain points raised by the community, including audio balancing, weapon lethality, and map rotation.
Tuning the Combat Experience
One of the most vocal pieces of feedback from the beta’s launch centered on the volume of footstep audio. Players noted that the default settings made it too easy to pinpoint enemy locations. Responding directly to these concerns, Infinity Ward has reduced both the audible range and the overall volume of enemy footsteps and gear movement.
The balance team has also addressed the game’s "time-to-kill" (TTK), which many players felt was currently too aggressive. The ISO Nightshade SMG and the Oris 8.6 marksman rifle have both received nerfs to their damage ranges and headshot multipliers. Additionally, the effectiveness of "Frangible" rounds has been reined in, with both the duration and magnitude of the slowing effect seeing significant reductions.
New Content and Map Voting
The update expands the available content, introducing a new map, "Cachette," and a fresh game mode titled "Inflation." In this mode, players compete to hoard the most cash by eliminating opponents and taking down High-Value Target (HVT) operators. A unique twist sees the wealthiest players marked on the map, turning them into prime targets for the rest of the lobby.
The inclusion of Cachette brings the total map count to four, which has officially unlocked the map voting feature—a highly requested quality-of-life addition. Furthermore, the map "Transit 213" has received a visual polish, with developers brightening shadowed areas and tweaking the color balance to improve visibility.
Bug Fixes and Known Issues
The patch also includes a comprehensive list of technical fixes. These range from resolving issues with the "Mobility Course" to correcting controller reconnection errors and display bugs within the Gunsmith. PC players struggling with access will be pleased to know that Infinity Ward is actively working to optimize the "Secure Attestation Wizard," which is essential for diagnosing and resolving entry errors.
Despite the updates, a few issues remain under investigation. Currently, the "join in progress" feature is temporarily disabled on the Kill Block map, and players are cautioned that "cooking" certain lethal equipment may still cause temporary FPS drops.
Looking Ahead
The Early Access phase of the beta is scheduled to run through August 25th, followed by an Open Beta for all players from August 28th to September 1st. Infinity Ward emphasized that this is only the beginning of their tuning process and encouraged players to keep sharing their feedback.
"Your feedback is what is going to make this game the best Modern Warfare," the studio stated in its patch notes. For those tracking the game’s development in real-time, the developers are maintaining a Trello board to keep players informed on the status of ongoing fixes.
