Box Office Clash: ‘Bethlehem Kudumba Unit’ Surges Past ‘Khalifa’ with Strong Weekend Momentum
The battle for supremacy at the box office is intensifying as the latest Malayalam releases vie for audience attention. As of Saturday, Nivin Pauly and Mamitha Baiju’s Bethlehem Kudumba Unit has firmly established a lead, demonstrating an impressive upward trajectory in its theatrical run.
‘Bethlehem Kudumba Unit’ Shows Dominance
Directed by Girish AD, Bethlehem Kudumba Unit has proven to be a major crowd-puller. Following a solid opening day, the film witnessed a significant surge on its second day. According to data from Sacnilk, the film raked in an estimated India net of Rs 7.15 crore on Saturday across 1,803 shows, marking a notable improvement over its debut performance of Rs 4.90 crore.
The film’s domestic performance is bolstered by a strong reach across the country, with Kerala leading the charge with a contribution of Rs 6.25 crore on Day 2 alone. Currently, the film’s total India net stands at Rs 12.05 crore, while its India gross has reached Rs 14.05 crore.
The momentum is even more pronounced globally. Bolstered by an overseas gross of Rs 23.20 crore, the film’s total worldwide collection has soared to an impressive Rs 37.25 crore within just two days. Audience enthusiasm remained high throughout Saturday, with the film recording a robust overall occupancy rate of 74.75%, peaking at 84.83% during night screenings.
‘Khalifa’ Faces Headwinds
In contrast, Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Khalifa is experiencing a cooling period at the box office. On its third day, the film recorded an India net of Rs 1.90 crore, representing a 20.8% decline from its second-day figures.
While Khalifa opened with a respectable Rs 5.35 crore net on its first day, its earnings have tapered off, bringing its total India net collection to Rs 9.65 crore. With an overseas contribution of Rs 14.25 crore, the film’s total worldwide gross currently stands at Rs 25.50 crore. Despite a respectable performance in night shows (47.50% occupancy), the film’s overall Saturday occupancy of 27.37% indicates it is currently trailing behind the commercial momentum generated by Bethlehem Kudumba Unit.
A Tale of Two Releases
As both films continue their theatrical journey, the current data highlights a clear divergence in audience reception. While Bethlehem Kudumba Unit is enjoying strong word-of-mouth and rising occupancy, Khalifa faces the challenge of sustaining interest in a competitive market.
