Actor and Model Rohullah Mehdi Arrested in Alleged Social Media Drug Ring Investigation
MUMBAI: In a significant crackdown on narcotics distribution, the Kashimira Police Crime Branch has arrested actor and model Rohullah Mehdi in connection with an alleged drug syndicate operating via social media platforms in the Mira Road area of Mumbai.
Mehdi, who recently appeared as ‘Rohanj Bhai’ in the upcoming Shahid Kapoor action thriller Deva, was taken into custody following a strategic operation by law enforcement. Authorities have seized 28 grams of MD (Mephedrone) with an estimated street value of Rs 5.60 lakh.
The Decoy Operation
According to officials, the police launched an investigation after receiving intelligence that synthetic drugs were being peddled through encrypted messaging services such as Snapchat and WhatsApp. To dismantle the operation, police deployed a decoy customer to set up a controlled transaction near Thakur Mall, located in the Dahisar Check Naka area.
The sting led to the arrest of a suspect identified as Kasif, who was allegedly caught in the act of delivering the MD. During subsequent interrogation, Kasif reportedly identified Mehdi as a primary figure in the supply chain. Acting swiftly on this lead, officers apprehended the 28-year-old actor outside a film studio in Malad, where he was reportedly engaged in a shoot at the time of his arrest.
Investigation Focuses on Industry Links
Mehdi, originally from the Budgam district of Jammu and Kashmir and a resident of Goregaon, Mumbai, has appeared in various web series and projects. Following his arrest, he was produced before a local court, which remanded him to five days of police custody for further questioning.
The investigation, led by the Kashimira Police under the supervision of DCP (Zone-1) Rahul Chavan, is now attempting to map out the extent of the narcotics network. Authorities are actively probing Mehdi’s contacts to determine the scope of his distribution and whether his operations extended to other members of the entertainment industry.
"The investigation remains ongoing, and we are working to uncover the full supply chain," a police spokesperson stated. "Further arrests could follow as we analyze the digital evidence gathered."
While the authorities have named Mehdi as the primary accused in FIR No. 437/2026, it is important to note that the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The police are continuing to verify the extent of his involvement in the alleged social media-based drug ring.
