Priyanka Chopra Jonas Reveals the Essential Element Behind Her Successful Marriage to Nick Jonas
For Priyanka Chopra Jonas, the secret to a thriving multicultural marriage isn’t a complex formula, but rather a foundation built on mutual respect and genuine kindness. Speaking at the New York premiere of her latest project, The Cycle of Love, the global icon opened up about why her husband, Nick Jonas, has been such a perfect partner—and why his willingness to embrace her heritage is non-negotiable.
When asked by reporters about Jonas’ deep connection to her Indian culture, Chopra did not mince words. “I don’t know if I’d love him if he didn’t,” she confessed to E! News. For the actress, a partner’s active participation in their spouse’s cultural background is a vital component of a healthy relationship.
A Shared Journey of Traditions
Since their whirlwind courtship and subsequent wedding in December 2018, the couple has consistently bridged the gap between their two worlds. Their union was famously marked by a multi-day celebration at the Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur, featuring both traditional Christian and Hindu ceremonies to honor both families.
Jonas’ commitment to his wife’s roots has been a constant feature of their marriage. From participating in Hindu prayers—where he notably impressed attendees with his dedication to learning Sanskrit—to celebrating Indian holidays with their daughter, Malti Marie, the singer has fully integrated himself into the Chopra family traditions.
Beyond cultural exchange, Chopra highlighted the simplicity of their marital success: “Being kind to your partner.” Having navigated the public eye and the pressures of their global careers since their 2018 nuptials, the couple credits this core value and the sincerity of their emotional connection for keeping their bond strong.
Championing ‘The Cycle of Love’
The timing of Chopra’s reflection was particularly poignant given the subject matter of the documentary she executive-produced. The Cycle of Love tells the extraordinary, true story of P.K. Mahanandia, an Indian artist who, in 1977, cycled 6,000 miles across multiple countries to reunite with the love of his life, a Swedish woman named Lotta von Schedvin.
The documentary, which highlights the resilience and determination required to maintain a cross-cultural relationship, resonated deeply with Chopra. “Everything about it is so heartwarming,” she said, noting that the story serves as a literal “ray of sunshine.”
Director Orlando von Einsiedel revealed that Chopra’s involvement in the project was organic; after viewing the film, she reached out to the production team, expressing a desire to help bring the story to a wider audience. Her hands-on approach as an executive producer has been instrumental in securing distribution for the independent project.
As for the lessons learned from the film’s subjects, who have remained together for nearly five decades, Chopra pointed to the importance of standing by the person you love regardless of the obstacles. It is a sentiment that mirrors her own approach to marriage, where respect for one’s roots remains the guiding light.
The Cycle of Love is set to open in U.S. theaters on August 28 via Variance Films.
