ICEYE Expands Global Footprint with New Strategic Entity in India

NEW DELHI – ICEYE, the Finnish leader in high-resolution Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellite imagery, has officially announced the establishment of its Indian subsidiary, ICEYE India. Headquartered in New Delhi, the move represents a major strategic expansion into one of the world’s most critical and rapidly growing defense and space markets.

The formation of the Indian entity follows the company’s recent launch of a German subsidiary, underscoring a broader shift in the aerospace industry. As nations increasingly prioritize “sovereign” space capabilities—the ability to control and access critical intelligence infrastructure domestically—establishing local subsidiaries has become a prerequisite for securing high-level government defense contracts.

Empowering Sovereign Intelligence

“ICEYE India means real engineering and manufacturing capability on the ground,” said Rafał Modrzewski, CEO and co-founder of ICEYE. “We’re excited to build this together with the government and local partners and to support India as it strengthens its own sovereign intelligence capability.”

The company confirmed it is currently exploring deep collaborations across the Indian aerospace ecosystem. Plans include potential partnerships with local launch providers, electronics and component manufacturers, and indigenous technology firms, aiming to integrate ICEYE’s global expertise with India’s robust domestic industry.

Persistent Awareness via Advanced SAR Technology

ICEYE operates the world’s largest constellation of SAR satellites, providing what the company calls an “end-to-end sovereign intelligence system.” Unlike traditional optical satellites that rely on sunlight and clear skies, SAR technology offers persistent situational awareness. By actively emitting energy and recording the reflections, these sensors can capture high-resolution imagery regardless of lighting conditions or cloud cover, making them indispensable for maritime surveillance, disaster monitoring, and defense operations.

The company’s software-defined satellites are capable of delivering imagery with resolutions as fine as 16 cm. Furthermore, its “Dwell Precise” mode allows the satellites to target specific locations for up to 25 seconds—significantly longer than the industry standard—to provide unparalleled clarity on building structures and surface characteristics.

The launch of the New Delhi office marks the latest milestone in ICEYE’s aggressive international growth strategy. The company now maintains a physical presence in key global markets, including the UK, Finland, Germany, Poland, Spain, Australia, Japan, the UAE, Greece, and the United States.

By grounding its operations in India, ICEYE is positioning itself as a primary partner for the Indian government’s push to modernize its defense intelligence capabilities, ensuring that the next generation of space-based monitoring is both locally accessible and technologically superior.
