In a recent interaction, Gouri Priya reflected on her journey, candidly describing herself as “just a Telugu girl who did a little well in Tamil.”

“As a child, I was too young to understand the difference between Telugu and Tamil films, as many dubbed films would release here,” she shared. “A lot of my childhood favourite films were actually Tamil dubs.”

The transition from a fan to a professional actor was organic, fueled by a genuine curiosity about the culture. During the pandemic, her interest peaked as she began watching acclaimed Tamil films in their original language. “I would sing a lot of Telugu songs that were actually dubbed from Tamil, and later, I used to listen to them in the original language to understand the meaning. That brought me closer to Tamil cinema,” she explained.

Overcoming the Language Barrier

Entering the industry was not without its hurdles. When she was initially approached for her first Tamil project, Gouri Priya admitted she struggled to grasp the nuances of the language. However, her dedication to her craft and the support of the industry helped her bridge that gap.

Today, she notes that the cultural exchange has led to some amusing misconceptions. “A lot of Telugu people actually think I’m a Tamilian who came to Tollywood, but that’s not the case,” she said with a smile. “I’m just a Telugu girl who did a little well in Tamil.”
