FORTÉ Announces Major Global Expansion with Acquisition of Vega Global
In a significant move that underscores the rapid consolidation and internationalization of the professional audiovisual (Pro AV) sector, Minneapolis-based integrator FORTÉ has acquired Vega Global, a premier systems integrator with a powerhouse presence across the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region.
The acquisition marks a transformative milestone for FORTÉ, which traces its roots back to 1974 as a small North Dakota-based integrator. The news arrives on the heels of the company’s recent announcement that it would be parting ways with the GPA alliance at the end of this year.
A Strategy Driven by Global Demand
The acquisition was finalized through Baird Capital, the Chicago-based private equity firm that held a majority stake in Vega Global since 2020. While the financial terms of the deal remain private, the strategic implications are clear.
Jeff Stoebner, chairman and CEO of FORTÉ, noted that while the company remains firmly rooted in its regional service model, this acquisition is a direct response to the needs of multinational enterprise clients.
“We’re working to build the answer for the global customer,” Stoebner told SCN. “We’re focusing on our ambition of being as close to our global customers as possible. When it comes to multinational clients, their biggest concerns aren’t necessarily about specific technology or pricing—it’s about coverage and the ability to deliver consistent quality across borders.”
Massive Geographic and Operational Scale
The deal significantly expands FORTÉ’s global footprint, adding a dense network of offices across the APAC region, including Australia, China, India, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, and the United Arab Emirates.
By integrating Vega’s operations, FORTÉ now boasts a team operating in more than 20 countries, with capabilities spanning over 70 major markets. The acquisition adds approximately 750 employees to the FORTÉ workforce, representing a 50% increase in total staff. Stoebner indicated that the company has immediate plans to bolster these ranks further by hiring additional technicians to meet growing demand.
The Path Ahead
For the immediate future, the international division will operate under the name “Vega Global, A FORTÉ Company.” While the long-term plan is to fully transition to the FORTÉ brand, Stoebner expects this rebranding process to take approximately one year. Notably, Steven Medeiros, the current leader of Vega, will remain with the organization as CEO of FORTÉ Asia.
The rationale for the purchase is rooted in the high growth potential of the APAC market, which is projected to generate nearly $200 million in Pro AV business this year. Vega, which has maintained a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 14%, provides a strong, established platform for FORTÉ to capitalize on that momentum.
The Human Element in a Tech-Driven Industry
Despite the rising influence of AI and cloud-based software in the AV landscape, Stoebner remains committed to the “physical” reality of the industry.
“There’s a physical nature to what we do,” Stoebner said. “That hardware requires technicians to integrate and support. What’s been true for a long time is that you have to have people, trucks, and tools as close to the customer as possible.”
By moving from an alliance-based model to owning its infrastructure, FORTÉ aims to standardize the end-to-end customer experience. As the company turns the page on its partnership with GPA, Stoebner views this acquisition not just as a one-time purchase, but as a blueprint for the company’s future.
“This is not the end of our journey,” he concluded. “It is just another important milestone.”
