Hugh Jackman Balances Philanthropy and Real Estate Challenges as Manhattan Triplex Lingers on Market

While Hollywood star Hugh Jackman is making headlines for his charitable efforts with Bilt and Global Citizen, his high-stakes personal life remains in the spotlight as his lavish Manhattan triplex struggles to find a buyer.

A Star-Studded Campaign for a Good Cause

The 57-year-old actor, who has long served as an ambassador for Global Citizen, recently joined Bilt founder Ankur Jain for the company’s “Rent Free” game show. The initiative rewards members with a month of free rent based on celebrity performance, all while promoting the fight against extreme poverty.

Jackman’s participation serves as a prelude to the upcoming Global Citizen Festival, which he is set to host in New York City’s Central Park on September 26. The event aims to mobilize 60,000 attendees to push for global progress, including better access to education, electricity for remote homes, and support for smallholder farmers. “Everyone… can solve extreme poverty. So I just got onboard,” Jackman said of his commitment to the movement.

The Real Estate Conundrum

While Jackman helps lucky contest winners secure free rent, his own real estate portfolio faces a more difficult reality. His sprawling, 11,000-square-foot triplex on Perry Street is currently listed for $28.75 million—a significant drop from its original 2022 asking price of $38.9 million.

The residence, designed by the renowned Richard Meier, is a masterpiece of modernism. It boasts a dramatic double-height living room, floor-to-ceiling windows with Hudson River views, and a private floor entirely dedicated to a primary suite, complete with a sauna and workout room. Despite these ultra-luxury features, the property has had a volatile journey on the market. After initial listing attempts failed, the actor and his former wife, Deborra-Lee Furness, briefly pivoted to the rental market, offering the unit for an eye-watering $125,000 per month in 2023.

Navigating Life After a Three-Decade Marriage

The status of the apartment remains closely tied to the fallout of Jackman and Furness’s high-profile divorce. The couple, who separated in September 2023 after 27 years of marriage, have spent the last year unwinding their shared assets. While an Eleventh Avenue penthouse has already been transferred into an LLC linked solely to Furness, the fate of the Perry Street residence—still registered to an LLC formed during their marriage—remains a lingering piece of their shared history.

The relisting of the home coincides with a new chapter for the Wolverine star, who has confirmed a relationship with actress Sutton Foster. Meanwhile, Furness has been candid about her own journey, recently speaking to the Daily Mail about finding the strength to move forward following the “traumatic journey of betrayal” that accompanied the end of her marriage.

As Jackman continues his work with Global Citizen, the Manhattan real estate market awaits a buyer for his iconic triplex, marking another transition for the actor as he navigates his personal and professional evolution.
