Suriya’s ‘Vishwanath and Sons’ Sees Massive Weekend Surge, Nears Rs 200 Crore Global Milestone

The momentum for the Suriya-starrer Vishwanath and Sons continues to defy industry expectations as the film enters its third week. Proving its strong hold on audiences, the movie recorded an impressive 53.5% growth in box office collections this past Saturday, signaling sustained interest in the feature.

A Resurgent Weekend

According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film raked in an estimated Rs 2.61 crore net in India on its 16th day, a significant leap from the Rs 1.70 crore reported on Friday. This jump was fueled by 1,331 screenings across the country, pushing the film’s total India net collection to a commendable Rs 113.46 crore.

On a global scale, the box office collections for Vishwanath and Sons have now climbed to an impressive worldwide gross of Rs 193.34 crore. This figure comprises Rs 131.34 crore from the domestic market and a robust Rs 62 crore from overseas territories.

Breakdown of Success

The film’s performance remains consistent across its primary language markets:

  • Tamil Version: The Tamil release continues to dominate, earning Rs 1.43 crore on Day 16. It saw a healthy 46% overall occupancy, with night shows proving particularly popular, recording a high occupancy rate of 71.92%.
  • Telugu Version: The Telugu dubbed version collected Rs 1.18 crore, maintaining a steady 36% occupancy rate throughout the day.

Since its release, the film has shown a resilient trajectory:

  • Week 1: Rs 81.60 crore
  • Week 2: Rs 27.55 crore
  • Day 14-16 trend: After a dip mid-week, the weekend resurgence is a testament to the film’s positive word-of-mouth.

Comparison with ‘DC’

While Vishwanath and Sons celebrates its third-week surge, Lokesh Kanagaraj’s acting debut, DC, is wrapping up its theatrical run with a respectable total. DC has earned a worldwide gross of Rs 101.82 crore, with an India net collection of Rs 68.20 crore.

With its theatrical journey nearing its conclusion, DC is now set for a digital debut. Reports indicate the film will begin streaming on the Sun NXT platform starting September 4, offering fans another way to engage with the title.
