Apple Hikes Prices for TV Streaming and ‘Apple One’ Bundle as Subscription Costs Rise

Apple has implemented a new round of price increases across its digital service ecosystem, marking the latest shift in the tech giant’s subscription strategy. Beginning Friday, the company’s standalone streaming platform, Apple TV+, saw its monthly fee climb from $12.99 to $14.99. Customers opting for an annual commitment will now pay $119, up from the previous $99 price point.

The adjustments extend beyond its video content. Apple has also raised the cost of its “Apple One” service bundle, which aggregates Apple TV+, Apple Music, iCloud storage, and Apple Arcade. The individual plan for the bundle has increased from $19.95 to $21.95 per month.

These adjustments follow a broader trend of price hikes within the streaming industry. Over the past few years, major competitors—including Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, Max, Paramount+, and Amazon Prime—have all raised subscription fees, often citing the need to offset production costs and achieve profitability.

For Apple, the move is a continuation of a steady upward trend in pricing. When the streaming service first launched in 2019, it was priced at an introductory $4.99 per month. Additionally, this latest round of increases follows a separate price adjustment in July, which saw the cost of Apple Music rise from $10.99 to $11.99.

Despite the persistent subscription price hikes, Apple’s core business remains robust. The company recently reported a record-breaking June quarter, posting $109.4 billion in revenue and surpassing analyst expectations of $108.65 billion. This strong financial performance was largely fueled by a 22% surge in iPhone sales and record-setting revenue from its Mac division. The company also benefited from tariff refunds, which contributed an estimated 5% boost to its profits during the quarter.

The latest financial report comes at a pivotal time for the company, as it marks the final earnings results under the leadership of CEO Tim Cook before his planned transition out of the role.

As consumers grapple with the rising cost of digital content, analysts continue to monitor how these Apple TV price hikes will affect long-term subscriber retention for the platform, which hosts critically acclaimed hits such as “Ted Lasso,” “The Morning Show,” and “Severance,” as well as exclusive sports broadcasting rights for Formula 1 racing.

Apple has yet to provide further comment regarding the specific drivers behind these latest subscription adjustments.
